Where do I begin with 2020? It definitely has not been a regular year and it seems like new things pop up every month. One thing that has been constant over the past few months – and will be for the foreseeable future – are face masks. I live in Connecticut and masks are required in all stores, enclosed spaces, etc. I have a number of re-useable face masks but I struggled to find a good face mask that I could wear while working out. This is why I was pumped to try out the Body Helix Ultra-Light Face Mask.
What is the Body Helix Ultra-Light Face Mask?
This mask is washable and reusable so it’s better for the environment. It comes in two colors – black or cool blue, and three different sizes – small, medium, large (for reference, I have a small). There is sizing chart available on their website to help determine the right size for you.
Here are six awesome details about the product:
– Optional nasal bridge wire strip controls air leakage and glasses fog
This is one of my favorite features of the mask. Because of the wire strip, I’m able to contour this piece to fit securely over the bridge of my nose so that the mask doesn’t slip.
– Flexible, closed-cell fabric prevents transmission of water, viruses, and germs
I live in the most populated county in my state and we had a scary number of Covid-19 cases back in April/May. I’m all about using any product – especially face masks – to help prevent the spread of the virus.
– Disposable filters reduce risk of transmission while maintaining breathability
I love the disposable filters as they offer an additional layer of protection.
– Large over-the-ear strap design reduces ear discomfort during long-term wear
I’ve dealt with several mask with ear straps that were too small which resulted in pain behind my ear. The straps for this face mask are large enough to sit comfortably on your ears without any pulling sensation.
– Ultra-light, 0.5 mm ultra-thin fabric ideal for hot temperatures
I have used this face mask inside a studio for Orangetheory Fitness classes and for outdoor runs in August – both places with warm temperatures. The thin fabric made both workouts comfortable. I was not sucking the mask into my mouth during runs and it was more dry than other masks I have tried.
– Unique non-slip fabric fits snugly to help reduce need for adjustments and minimizes contact between hands and face
I always try to avoid touching my mask once it’s on my face so I love that this mask really doesn’t slip which means there’s no need for adjustments during a workout.
I have used the face mask on several outdoor runs and walks. In addition, I also take ‘mask required’ classes at my local Orangetheory Fitness studio. This means we have to wear a mask for the entire duration of the class. The class consist of half cardio and half strength. I usually struggle on the treadmill, but this face mask allowed for more breathability due to the fabric. The mask didn’t slip up or down even though I was running sprints on the treadmill. In addition, it wasn’t super wet at the end of class which can be such an uncomfortable feeling!
If you’re looking for a mask to use during your workouts, or just every day activities, I would definitely recommend the Body Helix Ultra-Light Face Mask. In fact, I plan on ordering another one in black soon. Want to try out the mask for yourself? Thanks for the review.
I don’t wear a mask when I run.
Otherwise I wear the free medical ones.
kookyrunner says
I have used the free medical ones too but sometimes they are a little large around my nose. That’s why I like this mask since I can fit it snugly around the bridge of my nose.
Deborah Brooks says
Since I tried the under armour mask, I was wondering how this one is. I like the idea of a filter in there. May have to check this one out as well. I think we will be wearing masks for a while
kookyrunner says
At first I thought the filter would make it harder to breathe but I think it actually helped with the airflow.
Laurie says
This mask looks very comfortable. So far, I do not wear a mask when I run, but I would like to wear one to my Body Pump class. Thanks for the information!
kookyrunner says
No problem! IF you test it out, let me know how you like it.

I like that there’s a filter that can be changed-out. The cloth masks seem to fit me oddly; they all come up too high over my nose so my vision is impeded. I still haven’t found the perfect fit yet LOL. The adjustable nose feature on this one sounds ideal!
kookyrunner says
Yeah some of the cloth masks can be ill-fitting, especially around the nose. OR I’ve had some that are too big so I’ve had to make the straps way tighter which can be annoying.

I love that it comes in different sizes! I have a small head. I have a couple of masks that I like, and still wear, but I have to knot one — or both — earpiece otherwise it’s too large for my face.
I also try not to touch it once it’s on, but that can be hard if it slips down your nose! Sounds like a winner.
kookyrunner says
I’ve had to knot the earpiece for a few masks as well so I totally understand what you mean!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I like the idea that it is washable and reusable.
kookyrunner says
Me too! I try to be environmentally conscious when I can.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Glad to hear the mask has been working so well for you too!
kookyrunner says
I’ve really enjoyed it!

Hm. Might have to consider this one given that it didn’t suck in to your mouth when you breathe, and it doesn’t get wet. I wear a surgical mask at the gym but it definitely smells a bit funky -and can suck in to my mouth if I am breathing hard. Yuck. 🙂 And thanks for sharing!

Happy to share! If you end up trying this mask, let me know what you think.
