Happy Friday! Congratulations – we made it to the end of the week! Is it just me or was this week super long? I’m SO ready for the weekend! Since yesterday was the start of a new month, it’s time to discuss monthly goals for February!
First, let’s take a look at my goals from January:
Go vegetarian for a week
Grade: A
I did really well with this goal. I went meat-free from January 1-9. I had a chicken caesar wrap for lunch on January 10th and I really wasn’t feeling it, so I decided to go back to meat free. So basically, I’ve been meat free all month except for 1 day. Once change is that I’m not vegetarian but pescatarian since I’m still eating seafood. I think I’m going to keep this new diet and the best thing is that I’m not craving meat anymore. I’m proud of myself!
Hit all my workouts
Grade: B+
I hit all of my runs last month, despite the crazy weather, but I did miss a strength workout and substituted another strength workout with a spinning class. I know I need to do at least 2 strength workouts a week so I will work on being better about this in February.
Get back to daily PT exercises
Grade B+
I didn’t do my PT exercises daily last month, but I did do them at least 5 days a week so that a huge increase over December.
Here are my goals for February!
Complete the Supermans, Squats and Twists Challenge
A HUGE thank you to Rachel for creating this monthly challenge! I always say that I need to do more core work so this is a great way to get started! I’m also hoping that these moves will help with some lower back pain that I’ve had on some of my long runs.
Meal prep like a boss
I’ve got 2 peak weeks of training this month, so meal prepping is going to be super important. I have a feeling that I’ll be pretty busy with work as well so the less I have to think about “What to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner”, the better. I probably won’t have much energy to do anything else but work and do my workouts during those weeks, lol.
Watch the Olympics!
I’m OBSESSED with the Olympics and I have been for many years. There’s just something about the best athletes in the world competing against each other on the largest international stage in the world. It’s hard to watch some of the events live because of the time difference and work, but I’m going to try to watch as much of it online/on TV at home as I can. I’m so excited!
Decide what to give up for Lent
I usually give up something for Lent but this year I don’t have an idea of what I want to do. In previous years I’ve given up pizza, red meat, and junk food. I know a few friends that have given up social media and they say it feels so good to disconnect during that time. There’s so many things to choose from, but at least I have a little while longer to decide!
Try something new
I kind of feel like I’m in a rut when it comes to everything in my life right now. My routine is pretty much the same day in and day out. Not to say that anything is wrong with that, but variety is the spice of life after all. I’m not sure what my “new” thing will be this month, but it will be nice do something out of the norm.
Do you set monthly goals? Do you have any goals for February?
I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.
i’ve been trying to decide what to give up for Lent too and Im just not sure! I did give up Facebook one year and that was nice. I actually don’t use it much anymore now. Good luck with you February goals!
Thankfully we have until the 14th to come up with something to give up for Lent!
I’m weak. I can’t give up anything for Lent. I really need to give up wine but I love it so much…
LoL giving up wine would be very hard!
I’m not Catholic, but have always been pretty religious and “play along” during Lent…but I’m not coming up with anything either (yet). I have also heard of people choosing to do a new thing during Lent…something that’s good for them but takes the daily discipline to adhere to it (and hopefully start a new habit that sticks for a lifetime). The Olympics are always exciting!
I’m not Catholic either but I started giving up things for Lent a few years ago. I’ve also heard of people “adding” things for Lent, but like you said, it might be hard to stick to a new habit for 40 days!
Not sure if I will give up anything this year for lent. I usually do not do god with this. I have tried becoming a vegetarian a few years ago(not for lent) but I think I was over compensating with too many breads and unhealthy carbs, so I quickly switched back. I think I would do better on Paleo or whole 30.
Yes, that’s definitely what I started doing at first. Way too many carb filled meals the first 2 weeks, but now I’m starting to find more of a balance. It’s definitely hard though!
I am so happy to see that your vegetarian eating is going so well. We need a phone chat one day to go over some ideas. Meal planning really does help so much! impressed w how well you are doing
Thanks so much Deborah. I think it takes 21 days to break a habit so I’m happy I surpassed that, lol!
Great job in January! One year I gave up meat for Lent, but you’ve got that covered. I’m thinking about giving up buying stuff — a spending fast? But not counting eating out.
Oh I like the idea of a spending fast! That probably wouldn’t work for me because I’ll have to buy meals when I’m in Virginia for the Shamrock Marathon, and to be honest, I’ll probably buy some marathon swag too, lol
Sounds like you did really well meeting your goals last month! great goals this month. My goal is to get through this month and get to spring.LOL February can be the worst of winter in CT.
Thanks Patrick. Yes, February can be pretty rough in CT but at least it’s the shortest month of the year!
If I weren’t married, I’d be a pescetarian too. I enjoy meat, but it’s not something I crave, and there’s the whole ethical why is it ok to eat a cow but not a dog thing.
I think you did really well. I didn’t get as much ST in this week as I wanted to. It happens. Sometimes you have to prioritize rest over the little extras, not that I really consider that a little extra.
I love the Olympics, too. I tape it & fast through a lot of the commercials — it’s not so intimidating that way! Love the ice skating. Oddly love the skiing too even though I don’t ski.
I’m planning on doing something sort of new this month. I think it’s going to be hot yoga. I’ve never done hot yoga, but there are several places quite close to me — I just gotta look around for groupons.
Interested to hear how you like hot yoga – I’m very intrigued by it!
I’m excited to see what you give up for Lent. For some reason it fascinates me to see what people decide to go without. I have thought about giving up Facebook for a month- not for Lent, just for myself.
i think a social media detox is good every now and then
Kudos to you on the meatless front and a great month overall! Historically, my mom/grandma always gave up chocolate for lent but I’ve never given up anything. Due to my current thyroid issues, the plan is to be very vigilant with my food intake as well as meal planning and prep.
I’m sorry to hear that you are struggling with thyroid issues but I hope that your doctor can help you come up with a good solution.
I can’t wait for the Olympics too. Winter Olympics don’t have as many sports, but I’ll be watching the skiing, hockey, and maybe curling. I can understand curling without needing to know the rules.
That’s so true about curling!
Kudos to you on completing that challenge. I suck at that type of stuff.
I LOVE the Olympics!!!!!!!! I watch it all. I love speed and ice skating the most.
Me too! All the sports are great but I have a soft spot for all of the figure skating events,
I am such a meat eater that going off would be such a huge challenge for me! Maybe that should be mine for Lent!? Hope you find that something new… I need a bit more variety too if I am honest.
It’s hard to imagine not eating meat when you eat it a lot, but maybe you can give up a type of meat for Lent? That way you aren’t completely depriving yourself.
This has been the longest week of my life. Why? I have no idea!
I’m so glad you’re joining for the challenge this month. It shouldn’t be too hard!
I have no clue but I’m glad that it’s Friday! I’m excited to join the challenge this month. The one in January was a little too intense with my training but the February challenge is definitely something I can do!
I like your idea of trying something new this month – that’s something I’d like to try to incorporate too! Maybe in conjunction with a regular date night with my hubby, which is something we’ve been trying to do more regularly.
A regular date night sounds amazing! I think that would be a great thing to do every week to relax, if just for a little while.
This did feel like the longest week – what was that about?!?
You did great with your January goals! I’m so excited for the Olympics too – especially the skiing and the figure skating.
I have no clue, but I’m glad that the work week is over!
I also love figure skating – it’s my favorite winter olympic sport.
I’m always so impressed that you do your PT exercises so consistently. That really has to help with your running goal. I don’t think I can give up social media for an entire lenten season, but I have to think of something soon!
I agree – it would be hard for my to give up social media for a few weeks just because I love interacting with everyone online!
Great goals ! I love the “meal prep like a boss one especially!”
Thanks Nicole! Hoping I can make that one come true this month 🙂
Getting all your runs done despite the crazy weather is a big accomplishment 😉
Thanks so much Karen!
Kudos to you for successfully going meat free. I like my meat too much to give it up. Plus I rely on it as a major source of protein.
It was definitely harder in the beginning but now it’s getting a little easier everyday.
Good job on your meatless month! I’m not a practicing Catholic, but I encourage my nieces and nephew to do something for lent that is a sacrifice to them… maybe it’s do an extra chore, say a kind word to someone, etc. I’m doing Rachel’s challenge too… those twists today – oh my!
Thanks so much Vicki! I’m glad that I made the change.
I think that Rachel’s challenge will be awesome this month!
I really like the Superman, Squats and Twists Challenge–I think I will add it to my goals this month!
It’s been a great challenge so far!
Great goals for February! I love watching the Olympics and always find it easier to hit the gym when I see all of those inspiring athletes.
Thanks Andrea!
Watching the Olympics is an awesome goal! 🙂
I want to get a few places in my house organized better and get more runs in, 3 a week to be exact!
I always feel so much better when things are organized – that’s why i love Spring cleaning!
I think you did great Kim!
We definitely are going to watch the olympics here too. Ron is crazy about skating (as are most Dutch people! ha!) so I know that will be a main focus but I also am just so inspired by these athletes in all categories!
I would love to get better at meal prep Ijust don’t know when???
My goals have so far been weekly and I think they are going to stay that way for a bit!
Thanks Renee!
I don’t know if I’ll ever get a hold of meal prepping, but I’m going to keep trying until I’m a pro, lol
