#FrugalFridays – Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bars + Discount Code!

Almost a year ago I had the chance to review Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts and I loved the product! I jumped at the chance to try their Hemp Heart bars. The bars arrived a few weeks ago so I’ve had the opportunity to try them all 🙂

So what are Hemp Heart bars? Allow me to explain via the Manitoba website:

“Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart bars are crafted with the goodness of hemp and other tasty ingredients too. We’ve whipped up three different delicious flavours to choose from: vanilla, chocolate and apple cinnamon. Each 45 gram bar contains 10 grams of plant-based protein and 10 grams of omegas, so whether you grab one for a pre-workout snack or nutrition on the go, these convenient bars are sure to get you through even your busiest day!”


I’m a HUGE snacker, so I always try to have healthy snacks in my desk drawers at work. I always get a “snack attack” around 2 or 3pm at work so it was nice to have these bars as a healthy option.

The first flavor I tried was Vanilla. I was a little disappointed as the vanilla flavor was not that strong. It almost tasted like I was eating a plain bar, but because of the texture it was okay.


Next up was the chocolate bar. I decided to pair this bar with a handful of snacks to add a few extra grams of protein. To be honest, I’m not a huge chocolate fan so I thought this may be my least favorite flavor and I was right. If you are a fan of milk chocolate, you may like this bar, but it just wasn’t for me.



My favorite flavor was apple cinnamon! I eat an apple almost every day and I love adding cinnamon to my oatmeal so I had high-hopes for this flavor and it didn’t disappoint! I definitely tasted more of the apple than the cinnamon, but that worked for my taste buds 🙂

Today I’m featuring a review for Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts + green drink recipe + a giveaway! Fun times 🙂

I was lucky enough to receive a bag of hemp hearts through the #Sweatpink Fit Approach campaign. Honestly I had never heard of hemp hearts so I did research before signing up to take part in the campaign.

So what are hemp hearts? 

  • They have a slightly nutty taste, similar to sunflower seeds
  • Very easy to use – sprinkle on top of food or add to smoothies
  • They contain 10 grams of protein and 10 grams of omegas per serving (more than chia or flax!)
  • Ready to eat straight from the bag (so important!)
  • Non-GMO product (extra bonus points)
How did I use my hemp hearts?



Throughout the week I added hemp hearts to my green drinks and smoothies, sprinkled it on top of salads, oatmeal and greek yogurt, and one time I just ate a teaspoon amount from the bag. I really enjoyed the product and the flavor was not overwhelming. I actually liked the consistency better than chia seeds. My favorite way to use the product was in my green drink in the morning. Here’s the recipe:

Vega Hemp Hearts Green Drink

(made with the Nutribullet)

1 Medium Banana
2 cups of spinach
I scoop Vega Tropical Tango Protein Smoothie
1 tablespoon hemp hearts
5-7 ice cubes
Water
