Wow..8 weeks down and only a few more to go! This was a cutback week and it came at the perfect time. The next few weeks are going to be intense so I know my body appreciated a shorter long run this weekend. Overall the week was pretty good!
Monday
6 mile tempo run. This run was hard because I went to a concert on Sunday night and didn’t get to sleep until 2:00 a.m. Luckily it was Labor Day so I had the day off from work so I could sleep in a little. My Celsius energy drink really saved the day, that’s for sure!
Tuesday
4 mile easy run. My legs didn’t get the “easy” part and I ended up doing an accidental progression run – whoops!
Wednesday
60 minute Boot Camp Class
Thursday
7 mile easy run. This run was a struggle. I actually don’t mind running on the treadmill. In fact, half of my training runs are on the treadmill. For some reason this run felt like it took FOREVER but I finished and that’s all that matters!
Friday
REST DAY! I really enjoyed this rest day. I had pizza for dinner and then treated myself to an epsom salt bath.
Saturday
My plan called for 8-10 miles. I wanted to stop at 8 miles because it was SOOOO humid, but pushed through to get to 10 miles. As I mentioned earlier, I welcomed the cutback in mileage this weekend! Also I have decided to wear my marathon compression socks for all future long runs. I find that it really helps with the “tired legs feeling”. I really love the Pro Compression Elite Marathon socks because they have extra cushioning in the foot (use code PRO16 to save 40%)
Sunday
60 minute Spinning class. My legs always feel better after spinning. For me, it’s a great recovery after a long run
Total Miles – 27 miles
Training Cycle – 199.2 miles
Grade – A+
This was a great week of training. Sure, some of the runs felt a little harder than I would have liked, but I got through everything. This upcoming weekend I’m doing the RnRPhilly Remix Challenge (5K on Saturday and Half Marathon on Sunday). The half marathon will be part of my 16 mile long run for the weekend. For the next few weeks, I’m integrating races into my long runs. I’m doing this for two reasons – to give me more motivation to actually do the long runs and to get a medal. Hey, if you’re going to run long, why not get some bling? Have you ever made a race part of a long run?
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments – I welcome any advice!
I’m linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
I’m also Linking Up with the Jess’s (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

I trained in those exact same Mizunos last summer! I had an appreciated cut back this week too. In fact, I scrapped my long run altogether. How fun to do the remix challenge. So many people seem to be running RnR Philly! I’d absolutely get the bling if you’ve got to run that distance anyway! Good luck! Thanks for linking with us, Kim!

I really love the wave inspire 10s and I wish I could find another pair to purchase! You are right about RnRPhilly – there are so many people running the race and I look forward to meeting some new friends this weekend!

I usually have a few long runs incorporated into my long runs…I agree, if you have to run long, you might as well get a medal for it 😉 Do you also wear compression socks for recovery? I usually wear them overnight after long runs (10+ miles), and sometimes for the next couple nights depending on how everything feels. I also have been known to secretly wear them under my pants at work (a little easier to disguise them in cooler weather LOL)
kookyrunner says
I do wear the compression socks for recovery as well after the run. I love when the weather gets cooler because I can wear them under my dress pants during work 🙂

I’ve made plenty of races part of long runs. Usually I’ll tag the extra miles on after the race but in one case a couple of years ago I actually ran 5 on the mill (in the wee dark hours of the morning) before heading out for a 12 mile race. Ugh. I did that because it was so freaking hot. Talk about dedication I no longer have.
Yay for 8 weeks down! Double yay for the Philly Remix!
kookyrunner says
I think I may end up running the “extra” miles on the treadmill before the races because I know I am not going to run any miles after finishing the race lol
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job, you definitely deserve that A+! Can’t wait to finally meet you this weekend!! And those socks are too cute. I only seem to buy one pair at a time…I need to add to my collection!

Looking forward to meeting you too! Join the Pro Compression mailing list so you can get emails when they are running a sale 🙂

The elite socks are my fave too. And that combo of the blue with the yellow Mizunos, on point girl!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jen! The color coordination wasn’t planned (for once!), just a happy accident LOL

It’s the best!

Sounds like a great week of training! I’ve found that wearing compression socks or sleeves on the long run definitely helps with the tired legs feeling too! Have fun at RnR Philly!
kookyrunner says
The compression socks have been really awesome for long runs and after!
Sonia says
Great week of training! I did races as part of my long runs last marathon cycle too. It helps to break up the monotony.
kookyrunner says
Hi Sonia! That’s awesome that you also added races as part of the long runs. I’m really thinking it will help with the monotony like you mentioned.

Solid week – have fun at Philly!!

Thanks Courtney!

Love those compression socks so cute. And I totally do the same thing as you mentioned above with wearing them under my work clothes for recovery 🙂
2 am! You’re a rockstar!
kookyrunner says
I love wearing compression socks to work because I feel like I’m sneaking in extra recovery, lol 🙂
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I will admit what helps me with the tired legs feeling is not just wearing the socks during the run, but then post shower tossing on a new pair to wear for the rest of the day. Also, I do ice baths once a week after long runs to help, but that is a whole different kind of torture.
kookyrunner says
I have yet to do an ice bath, but I know that there is going to be one in my future – yikes!
Jess @ Jess Runs ATL says
Great week of training! I also have been wearing the heck out of the pro compression Elite socks, I love the extra cushioning! I put on a fresh pair after my shower too for recovery.
Good luck at Philly! I usually like to do one race for training during a cycle, I always have to remind myself during those races that the goal is NOT that race. I tend to want to run as fast as I can! Good luck at Philly!
kookyrunner says
The compression socks have really been a life saver so far. I’m trying to mentally prepare for all the long runs coming up within the next month!
I’m looking forward to Philly this weekend – thanks!
Tricia Vaughn says
The only thing missing from you Friday night date picture is a glass of wine and it would look just like mine sometime! Ha I love my Dr. Teals’ Salt baths, oh and the wine, can’t forget the wine! 😉
Great job this week, glad it was less taxing and yup your right you made it just fine!
Good luck with RnRPhilly I’ve incorporated half’s with training before too and yes it is all about the medal! I mean your already out there, might as well get something for your efforts, right!?!?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Tricia! I’m really looking forward to RnR Philly!
I’m all about the race medals so using races to help with long runs just seemed right!
