Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: what’s on your Fall bucket list? You can write about this or any running related topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
I’m going off topic this week to share my Back on my Feet Running Festival 10K Race Recap. Back on My Feet is a national organization operating in 14 major cities across the US, combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.
I was familiar with the organization before hearing about the running festival so I was excited to sign up! What I loved most about the running festival is that they offered multiple distances – 5K, 10K, 15K and 30K. They also offered the 37.2 miles option – run all four running festival events over the month of September to receive a unique medal! Since I have been sticking to shorter distances for over a year, I decided to go for the 10K option.
I knew that this would be a treadmill run so I planned my Peloton stack the night before. For the bulk of my run, I selected two classes with amazing, upbeat playlists. I mainly focused on run/walk intervals for the both classes. This not only made the time fly by, but it also made the virtual race enjoyable too!
Granted running a virtual race on a Monday morning isn’t the norm, but it’s also much more fun to run virtually with friends! Thanks to Michelle and Cari for joining me.
I received an update from the organization yesterday morning with the final numbers – the running festival had more than 900 participants and nearly $400,000 raised. What a great showing for their first virtual event! When I think about all of the good the organization can do with that money, it makes me heart so happy!
I would 100% recommend this running festival to anyone and I’m already planning to take part in it next year. I love to use my miles to support a great cause.
Tell me: Have you run any fun in-person or virtual races lately?

I love it when running events are dedicated to a good cause! USD 400’000 is a lot of money!
How does the donating work? Do the runners pledge an amount and/or do they raise money from friends and family who then pay by kilometre?
So nice that you could do it together with Michelle and Cari, too!
Right?! They raised so much money and I’m so happy/proud of them!
Runners could set up fundraising pages so that people could submit donations of any size.
Love it!!!! As though virtual events have kind of “run their course,” they support such great causes, and they have really been a hugely positive thing to come out of Covid. They existed before, but Covid really gave them an opportunity to shine. Well done, Kim!!!! So nice you could participate with Michelle and Cari 😉
I agree about the virtual races. I was “over them” earlier this year but decided I would do them again as long as they raised funds for charity.
Nice job Kim! I have sworn off virtual races after last year, but this one sure was worthy. How fun to do it with Michelle and Cari, too.
I was burnt out on virtual races earlier this year but decided that I will only do them if they give funds to charities.
Events like this one are a great way to raise awareness and funds for organizations that really them right now. Well done Kim!
Totally agree!
This is a great race. Glad you did so well.
I’m back to in person races. A 5k last weekend and a half next.
I did many virtuals last year. But they are a good to donate to a charity and get in activity.
Hope you can run this live next year.
I don’t mind virtual races as long as they raise funds for charities. That’s basically the only way I’ll sign up for one, lol.
I have a live race on my calendar for March 2022 and I am hopeful I can do that one.
Sounds like a successful fundraiser! Is Back on my Feet the one the founder of Solidcore started? I get confused by that one and Mile in my Shoes as they seem sort of similar (which is awesome there are two charities doing similar work- definitely a need for it!)
I’m not sure but I’ll research that!
That’s so awesome! Can’t believe that all that was just from virtual races! That is super cool. I love it when races give back to great causes and that definitely seems like a wonderful one. Way to go!
Right?! I was blown away by the amount of money they were able to raise. So cool!
It’s been a long time since I’ve done an in person or virtual race! Nice job, Kim & a great cause! Congrats!
Thanks! I will probably do a few more virtual races this year and hope to get back to in person races in 2022.
I love to run (virtual) races for good causes. I shared my own virtual race for today’s link up as well. It sounds like you had a lot of fun and I love that you ran this race with friends #separatebuttogether!
Just read your virtual race recap – congrats on a great run and a 2 minute PR!
I love to run races for social and good causes. Glad you did it. Congrats.
I remember 2 years ago, few days before the lock down, there was in Roma a race for a social cause. For a mistake of the organization a lot of participants ran on a wrong way and got lost. The organization was so kind to offer the refund but nobody accepted because the cause was too important.
That is such a great story about the race! A bummer that runners got lost but I love that none of them took the refund.
Great job with your 10K! I love the idea of stacking some Peloton runs to get it done.
It’s awesome that they had such great participation and fundraising! This is definitely a cause I would like to continue to support in the future. I’m so glad I got to do this event with you and Cari 🙂
Thanks! I figured that if I had to do the virtual race on the treadmill, I might as well pick fun classes to take!
What a fun idea- love the pic of you with Michelle and Cari. Our options have really expanded with virtual races, haven’t they? It could give you a reason to run a 30k even if there’s not an official race near you. You’re inspiring me to get involved with events like this in the future.
Congratulations!
Totally agree – and I love that even some of the larger race organizations are now offering virtual races too.
How nice that you got to do this virtually with friends! That is awesome that it raised so much money! I didn’t run, but i did get to watch my sister run the Harvest Festival race last weekend! -M
That’s great that you were able to watch your sister race last weekend!
Great job, Kim! Awesome that Cari and Michelle join you. I am in awe in how much money was raised too!
For sure! Virtual races are so much better when you can do them with friends.
Great stack for 10k. BOMF has a presence in DC – it is a great organization! We all now how empowering running can be. $400K is fantastic.
Love to hear that BOMF has a strong presence in DC. I’m so impressed by the organization and everything that they do.
Whoops, missed this. Now linked back.
$400K, wow. That’s amazing and so necessary.
So glad you & Michelle posted about this race. I’m over the virtuals but will do anything for a good cause
I’m so happy they were able to raise so much mnoney!
