Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics! This week’s topic is all about Global Running Day.
Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Global Running Day is like an unofficial holiday for runners. It’s the one day out of the year where we all come together as a community and log miles. For me it’s also a day where I appreciate how much running has given me – fitness and endurance, confidence, great friends, travel experiences and a sense of community. For someone that hated running as a kid, it still amazes me how much I enjoy it now.
This year I’m doing something a little different. I’m running a relay leg in the 2020 Global 24 Hour Relay Virtual Race.
Here’s how it works: On June 3rd be a part of a relay race with runners from all over the world. Each relay team will run from 12:00am to 11:59pm and virtually hand off the baton to the next runner every 30 minutes. All runners will receive a medal and t-shirt which will be mailed out at the end of June. When it’s your turn, you’ll receive a message from your teammate who just finished, run or walk your leg, and send a message to the next runner on your team to start their turn.
There are teams for many cities including San Diego, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Denver and many more. I’ll be running for the Chicago team. I figured that while I can’t make my annual trip to the city, I can run virtually for one of my favorite cities! In addition, each participant gets a medal and t-shirt.
This should be a really fun event and I’m looking forward to seeing all the images on social medal.
Tell me: How will you celebrate Global Running Day?

This sounds so fun and it’s such an interesting event! I love how the virtual events have become more and more creative. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Me too! I have to admit that while I still done absolutely love virtual races and runs, I’m all about anything that can make us feel more connected as a community.
Catrina says
Oh, sometimes I wish I’d be living in the US! You have so many fun virtual events! I would have done this one in a heartbeat.
I’ll be doing the Brooks Running Virtual 5k – which I’m happy about.
Let us know how this went!
kookyrunner says
Ehh..the US isn’t the best place to be at the moment, I’d like to escape to Canada!
The Brooks Running Virtual 5K sounds like fun – I’ve seen some great advertising for it.
Kimberly Hatting says
Have fun on your relay team! I’ll be hitting the streets in the wee hours 😉
kookyrunner says
Sounds good!

I think the idea of a virtual relay is more fun than a virtual race — it gives you that sense of community, right?
I do plan to run tomorrow. That’s just how my week works out, though, not specifically for global running day!
I look forward to hearing how you enjoyed this race.
kookyrunner says
I agree! That’s why I think this event will be very cool.
Darlene says
Always run on this day. So I will squeeze one in at some point in the day.

Your race sounds so fun.

Sadly, I will be celebrating Global Running Day with a walk, but I will be out there! It’s supposed to get super hot tomorrow (mid-90’s) so I’m going to go out early before seeing my 7 AM client.
kookyrunner says
Hope you had a great walk this morning to celebrate GRD!
Denise @ runheartfit says
That sounds better than any other virtual race that I’ve heard of. Will you get a time frame of when your turn will be?
Good luck Kim!
kookyrunner says
Yup! I did my leg at 8am this morning – it was fun.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says

How fun is this! People are getting so creative with the virtual races! 🙂
kookyrunner says
Although this has been a very hard and weird year, it’s great to see all the creativity from people.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I am bummed that I missed this opportunity. Sounds like so much fun! How did it go?
kookyrunner says
It was great! It was their first year doing it so there were a few small issues but it all came together on race day.
