Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics! Apologies for not posting last Tuesday. I had some blog issues that morning and nothing would post. I didn’t have time to troubleshoot the issue so I decided not to post. I’m hopeful that everything is now fixed and that it won’t happen again!
Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
This weekโs topic โ It’s BRAG time! Tell us about your running PRs!
Although I don’t currently run for PRs, obtaining a PR is always fun! I haven’t run a PR in many, many years but I can vividly remember how happy I was when I achieved PRs for different distances.
5K and Half Marathon PR
Can you believe that I earned my 5K and Half Marathon PRs during the same race weekend in 2014? How crazy is that! I earned my 5K PR at a local race, the Run for Waterside 5K. It poured during the whole race so I think I was probably running faster than usual just to get the run over with. After going home to shower, change clothes and re-fuel, I drove to Long Island for the Diva’s Half Marathon the next day. I vividly remember that the weather was perfect and that everything just clicked that day.
Marathon PR
Funny enough, this PR is from my very first marathon – the 2016 New York City Marathon. I still don’t know how this is possible. I feel like I was super well trained for my other 3 marathons but never hit a PR. The closest was the 2018 Shamrock Marathon but even that was 15 minutes off my PR. Oh well, I guess it doesn’t have to make sense AND who wouldn’t want the NYC Marathon as their PR?! Does anyone else have their first marathon as their marathon PR?

Topic for next week – What was the worst thing that happened to you at a race? Feel free to write about any running related topic

It’s fun to look back–for my 5k and 10k PRs, I have to go way back, lol! I don’t chase PRs anymore-except in strength training! Those days are long behind me.
kookyrunner says
Same for me! The only PRs I pay attention to now are the ones I get at OTF, lol.
Catrina says
Amazing! Winning a 5k and a half-marathon PR on the same weekend! How awesome is that!
Love the picture of you in full Diva Attire, haha!
I had to wait for my first marathon PR – I think it took me about 7 years to get one. I’m a slow learner! ๐
kookyrunner says
Thanks! That race was so much fun and they had very attractive firefighters handing out roses and medals at the end. IT was the best way to end a race, lol
Kimberly Hatting says
Well, my marathon PR is from my second marathon. It was a mere 6 seconds faster than my first…on a hillier course in a different city LOL I haven’t been close to that finish time since, but I seem to be plagued with challenging race day circumstances, especially in terms of weather. I”m thankful my body allows me to go the distance, though, so I’m totally fine with whatever shows on the clock.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I was going to mention that you have dealt with some crazy marathon day weather!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Maybe it was the power of NYC? My first 5k & half weโre my slowest!
Crazy that you PRโd both distances in one weekendโ with a drive, too!
kookyrunner says
It probably was the power of NYC! That crowd energy is great ๐
I still have no clue how I PR’d both races that weekend!
Darlene says
I think my PR days are behind me.
You never know.
Iโd just like to race again.
kookyrunner says
Same! I don’t see any more PRs in my future but I’m actually totally okay with that.
Chaitali says
That’s impressive that you got two PRs in the same weekend! I have a feeling my first marathon may be my PR too but that’s because I don’t think I’ll do another one ๐ But yeah, I’m kind of switching to running for fun too so not sure I’ve got more PRs in store.
kookyrunner says
Same here – I no longer run for PRs which actually makes training for races a lot less stressful!
The Accidental Marathoner says
My marathon PR is also my first marathon (and my first race every), which was the 2013 Chicago Marathon. I don’t really pay attention to my times so I really couldn’t tell you what my PRs for other distances are – I just know this one because it was my first!
kookyrunner says
I’m so glad we have this in common! ๐
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
So cool that you had 2 PR’s in one weekend, what a great feeling! One of the most meaningful PR’s that I have is in the half marathon distance. For almost 6 years, my PR was my very first half, and it was frustrating to think I’d never get that close again. When I finally got it, it was in my hometown of Buffalo and I was able to see my extended family along the course, it was a great day and a great race!
kookyrunner says
That’s so awesome that you were able to get a new half marathon PR after 6 years if trying, especially in your hometown!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Sigh, PRs. Those were the days. LOL! I PR’d in every distance in 2015. It was a really good year for me. I keep telling myself that my PRs all reset when I turned 50. I think that’s fair ๐ That is interesting that your first marathon is your PR. Very cool it was at NYC marathon!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that you had so many PRs in one year!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
It’s been a long time since i ran any (real) PRs too! My marathon PR is from my most recent marathon, but that was in 2015! There are so many factors that can affect if a PR happens in a race.
kookyrunner says
So true! I remember that my worst marathon was the one I felt the most trained/ready for. Race day can throw so many curveballs!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
How fun to have snagged two PRs in one weekend! Even though my PR days are long behind me, it’s fun to look back on those races.
kookyrunner says
I agree! I always look back on that weekend with a lot of pride, especially since I won’t see those finish times again, LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Somehow I missed this post earlier in the week. I am pretty sure my PR days are way behind me but is fun to go back and look sometimes.
kookyrunner says
Mine too! Right now I’m just running for stress relief and to enjoy the health benefits.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I’ve always wanted to do the Diva’s Half Marathon but it just never worked out. How awesome that you got two PRs that same weekend! Even amazing that your marathon PR is from a much hillier and tougher course. Chicago as your know is FLAT!!
kookyrunner says
Haha yes! That’s why I love Chicago races so much ๐
Black Knight says
Very nice topic. 2 PR in a week end: fantastic!
My PR are in the past between 1986 and 1992: yes, I am getting really old.
kookyrunner says
Thanks – I still don’t know how I pulled off 2 PRs in one weekend!
