Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a great week. It was another hot and humid week here, mixed in with a crazy storm. I think we hit “real feel’ temperature of 95 or more almost every day. Needless to say, I’m over it.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, July 20
Peloton Grateful Dead Run 7/9/20 – Andy (30 minutes)
Peloton Grateful Dead Ride 7/8/20 – Jenn (45 minutes)
Oof..these classes were painful! Of course I’ve heard of the group, but I don’t know any Grateful Dead songs. Still, I was willing to give it a try! I found the songs to be very melancholy and not good at all for a run or a ride. It was pretty boring but I got through both classes.
Tuesday, July 21
Peloton Caribbean Bootcamp 7/11/20 – Jess (60 minutes)
Peloton Pop Ride 7/9/20 – Cody (20 minutes)
Peloton JLO Yoga Flow 10/14/19 – Aditi (30 minutes)
Absolutely loved both of these classes! The music for the bootcamp class was SO good and Cody’s rides always make me laugh and put me in a good mood. It was Tie Dye day at my OTF studio and eventhough I wasn’t there for class, I still got in the spirit at home π
I spent my lunch break getting a COVID-19 test and that was not fun – more on that later on in the post. I had a pretty long day so I decided to destress and do a yoga class later on in the evening.
Wednesday, July 22
Peloton Walk + Run 7/22/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
Peloton Lil Wayne HIIT Cardio 7/22/20 – Rebecca (20 minutes)
Peloton Lil Wayne Ride 7/22/20 – Alex (45 minutes)
I’m usually an early morning workout person but I pushed my workouts to the evening since I knew I would be hoping on my bike at 7:30pm to take the Lil Wayne ride live. I did a nice walk+run class to warm up my body, followed by a HIIT cardio class. The ride was hard and I enjoyed it, but I was surprised that it didn’t have some of the more popular Lil Wayne songs. To my surprise, I earned a new PR on this ride, which is amazing since I haven’t hit a PR on a 45 minute class in almost a year!
Thursday, July 23
Peloton Lil Wayne Full Body Strength 7/23/20 – Jess (30 minutes)
Peloton Lil Wayne Run 7/23/20 – Robin (30 minutes)
Peloton Lil Wayne Bootcamp 7/22/20 – Chase (30 minutes)
I was so excited for these classes all day and they did not disappoint. All of the playlists were SO good – it made me forget that I was getting my butt kicked. The full body strength class was worthy of the #deathbyjess hashtag – she literally threw a little of everything into that class.
Friday, July 24
Peloton 90s Walk 6/30/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
Peloton Pride Ride 6/27/20 – Cody (30 minutes)
Peloton Whitney Houston Full Body Strength 7/1/20 – Jess (30 minutes)
After this workout I realized I should take more of the walking classes. They are an excellent warmup for a run or cycle class. The Pride was so great and Cody made me work and laugh all at the same time and I definitely felt the burn during the full body strength class.
Saturday, July 25
Peloton Latin Fun Run 11/7/19 – Jess (45 minutes)
Peloton Madonna Outdoor Run 6/28/19 – Matty (30 minutes)
I participated in the Quad-City Times Virtual Bix 7 race with a few other bloggers. I haven’t run outside in about 2 weeks so it probably wasn’t the best idea to knock out 7 miles. The run was hard and I was drenched with sweat after 10 minutes. I definitely wanted to stop around mile 5 but knowing that everyone else was out running gave me incentive to finish. I didn’t want to listen to my playlist so I decided to use two Outdoor Peloton runs to get me through the 7 miles.
Sunday, July 26
Madonna Run 6/30/19 – Rebecca (30 minutes)
Madonna Ride 6/28/19 – Robin (30 minutes)
Orangetheory at Home Pulsing Challenge
Orangetheory at Home 500 Rep Challenge
Peloton P!nk Yoga Flow 11/4/19 – Ross (30 minutes)
The Madonna themed run and cycle class were good. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of her music but I know enough songs that I was able to sing along during the classes. I did two Orangetheory challenges to get in a little bit of strength work. The 500 rep challenge was harder than I expected – probably because my legs are pretty beat.
Total Weekly Mileage: 20.5 miles
Summary: 7 runs*, 5 cycle, 2 bootcamp, 3 strength and 2 yoga classes.
*I include running from my OTF workouts, boot camp classes and stand alone runs.
Peloton Artist Series Classes Progress – 89/105
Grade This Week β A
I started the Peloton ‘Power of Sleep’ program. So far it’s okay – some meditations work and put me to sleep fast while others don’t. It’s a 2-week program that focuses on 5-10 minute daily sleep meditations to allow for deeper and longer sleep. One of the goals for the OTF BackAtItChallenge is to change sleeping patterns for a week, so this is the perfect opportunity to try out this program. I’m REALLY hoping that it works because I can’t continue with my awful sleep patterns – I have to break the cycle somehow.
Week 2 of Pelothon is complete! This week’s challenge was to take 2 live classes during the week. Both of the live classes I wanted to take – Lil Wayne Ride on Wednesday and Lil Wayne Full Body Strength on Thursday – were in the evening so that’s why I had two late workout days this week.
You may have noticed no OTF classes this week. I was notified on Monday that I may have been in close contact with someone within in the last 2 weeks that tested positive for Covid-19. Although I don’t have any symptoms, I immediately scheduled myself for a COVID-19 test the next day. The test wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t uncomfortable. I would rather give blood than do that test again. Thankfully the test came back negative. Anyways, I called my OTF studio on Monday to freeze my account for 2 weeks just in case I would have to self quarantine as I wasn’t sure how long it would take to get test results. Technically I could go back next week because I am negative, but I’ll just keep the hold on my account and go back the week of August 3rd.
…and now for this week’s meme collection..
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

So now you know what the COVID test feels like LOL Total nasal invasion, right? Glad you’re negative, but what a bummer on the exposure. I’m not a fan of the Grateful Dead, so I could not imagine getting much mojo from them for a workout, but maybe that works for others (?). SO glad we could do the Bix together…sounds like we all had the same weather conditions and did a lot of virtual sweating in unison π
kookyrunner says
LoL, total nasal invasion and it was not fun. Yeah those Grateful Dead classes were pretty much torture, but I’m glad I got them done and can check them off my list.
Ugh! I was so incredibly sweaty yesterday. I’m always amazed by how much I sweat in the summer.
Deborah Brooks says
Glad your test came back negative. Smart idea to skip the in person classes just in case. You had a great variety of workouts this week. Maybe I should try the sleep meditation app? I have not been sleeping so well lately. The humidity ugh it’s so draining. Congrats on your Box 7! Have a great week
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Yeah I figure I’ll just stay away for 2 weeks, no big deal. The Peloton workouts keep me plenty busy too π
Definitely try the sleep meditation – I’m one week in and overall I do like it. The meditations next week are a little but longer which should be nice.
Liz Dexter says
Sorry you had to take the test and smart decision indeed. I cannot see how anyone could do any exercise to The Grateful Dead, what a peculiar choice to offer you! The other classes sound fab. I have got myself to sleep with my hypnotherapy tape, I will match you and make an extra sleep effort this week. Good luck!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Sorry for the exposure but so glad you tested negative!
I had to chuckle at your comments about the Grateful Dead – I’m so not a fan and for the life of me couldn’t figure out how they could create workouts to fit with the music.
I’m curious to hear what you think of the Peloton sleep mediation. I’ve been using sleep meditations from the Insight Timer which seems to be helping lately.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I was a huge ball of anxiety for the first half of the week so I was very relieved to get the negative test results.
Okay so I’m not the only one that feels that way about the Grateful Dead? I seriously had to zone out during the cycle ride and for the run I just kept doing intervals to make it go by quicker.
So far so good on the sleep meditation classes. I think I’ll blog about it next month after I finish the second week. I find that it really helps me to calm down.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m so sorry about the close contact, but glad that your test came back negative.
I have yet to take a live Peloton class! I started the power of sleep too, but so far — meh. Not super impressed with that one. I’ve done some other meditations that I do like on the app, but those aren’t moving me so far.
Yesterday’s run was definitely tough. Especially the last couple of miles. I always manage to pick up the pace the last mile, though, I want to be done, LOL!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I was glad the test was negative – it was a big relief. I have noticed with the power of sleep that I prefer meditations from Ross and Anna so far.
I was slogging through my last mile yesterday – I just wanted it to be over, lol.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
We’ve had a little relief from the heat here, it’s still hot but we’ve got the occasional breeze and a few overcast days. Someday summer will be over! I really do love summer, just not running in the heat. I haven’t done the Peloton sleep program, but I think you’ll like it. Sometimes I go through rough patches where I can’t sleep and when that happens I listen to meditation podcasts to break the cycle. I don’t actively follow along, but listening to them makes me drowsy and after a few nights it’s like my body learns how to sleep again.
kookyrunner says
I didn’t even know there were meditation podcasts out there – that’s really cool! I will need to check that out after I finish this 2 week program.
Wendy says
I’m sorry you had a bad experience with the COVID test! I think it depends on the tester. Mine wasn’t bad at all. Of course, I once had the flu swab that went all the way down my nose to the back of my throat, so there’s my perspective. THAT was the worst test I’ve ever had and I’ve had all kinds of tests. I pushed the tester away, lol! Anyhoo, I’m so glad you don’t have COVID. I would have needed that meditation podcast after that !
kookyrunner says
OMG that flu swab test sounds awful! I would has pushed the tester away too. The only good thing about the covid test was that it was super quick so I didn’t have to suffer too long.
Jessie says
Glad your test was negative! I have the test blown up in my mind as totally awful, even though I’ve heard it’s not really THAT bad π But better to be surprised in a good way if/when I have to take it! It sounds like at least the systems are in place for you to be informed you were exposed and get tested right away. That’s good to hear!
Great job on the sweaty 7 miler!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! It was such a relief to get the negative test result and I was very thankful that the person that contacted covid did his or her due diligence to notify people of their results.
Coco says
Glad you were able to get a test quickly, get your results fast, and that you tested negative. Do you know the person? Are they OK? The news seems so focused on asymptomatic people, I donβt want to forget that it can be dangerous.
I could maybe see enjoying one Grateful Dead song during a spin class, but not a whole class worth! My priest was looking for more cycling classes to try (sheβs hooked on Mat Wilpers) but I refrained from suggesting the new Lil Wayne ride. π
kookyrunner says
I don’t know the person so unfortunately I don’t have any information on their status but I hope that they are okay and on the mend.
LOL it was for the best that you did not suggest the Lil Wayne ride hahaha. But also, how cool is it that your priest has a Peloton? That’s amazing!
Cari says
So glad you’re negative, that had to be scary.
I like a few grateful dead songs, but yeah not the right speed for me for movement motivation. I need my bad pop
Stole a few of these memes. Again
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cari! Yeah, the first part of this week was super stressful because I was really anxious, but luckily I got the test results within 48 hours. I love that you enjoy the memes!
Cari says
So much stressfull going on in the world, we need to laugh when we can
Zenaida Arroyo says
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a Grateful Dead song but now I am curious. You are not a fan of Madonna’s music? Girl!!!
I saw the power of sleep program and was curious about it. I will check it out.
Glad you got positive news with the test results. That must have been a scary experience.
My favorite meme is the one of the flag. Love it.
kookyrunner says
You’re definitely not missing out by not listening to the Grateful Dead, lol. I like Madonna well enough, she’s just not my “go-to” for workout jams, lol.
Marcia says
Phew! Glad you tested negative. Illinois just pulled back on gyms and studios so even less people can be in one at the same time. I’m opting to stay out for now. A Grateful Dead ride wouldn’t float my boat either. Way to continue rocking that Pelothon!
kookyrunner says
CT is good for now but I think people are starting to get a little too relaxed – going out more, etc, so I wonder if our numbers will start to creep back up. Keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go well here.
Chaitali says
Glad the test came back negative! Thatβs scary about the exposure still. Those Lil Wayne classes sound like a lot of fun π
kookyrunner says
The Lil Wayne classes were great!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
OMG, that book! LOL!!!! Glad the test was negative. We’ve had someone in our office test positive, so it’s slowly creeping closer to me. (although I was not in contact with my coworker) Great job on all of those classes!
kookyrunner says
Hahah right?! The meme with the book was my absolute favorite and I wish it was real because I would buy it.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that someone in your office tested positive. I hope that your coworker will be okay – stay safe!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Glad you were negative, but thats scary that you were possibly exposed! Hopefully no one else at your studio gets sick. My mom was tested last week and when I asked her how it was she said “not worse than childbirth” lol- that says alot. I’ll get it if I need to but its not something I’m looking forward to.
kookyrunner says
Your mom’s description of the test made me LOL!
Jenn says
So glad you’re negative, but ugh. I hear it’s awful.
Despite that, you were still able to get in a lot of fitness! You’re amazing!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn! Yes, thank goodness it was negative and I’m in no rush to take the test again lol.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I love your tie-dye shirt and headband – what a fun day for OTF! I’m glad your COVID test was negative, especially since you may have been exposed. My husband and I both got tested for COVID before going to see my mom out of an abundance of caution.
We had multiple storms down at the farm. In fact, we had one really bad storm and then day after day of rumbling thunder and intermittent rain.
Have a great week, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I think I got both the shirt and headband from Amazon.
