Online Resale Websites
I know that that people either love or hate the resale websites but I’ve always been able to find some great deals on there. I only purchase items that are new with tags. On eBay I’ve purchased Brooks sports bras and a few workout shirts. I found a really awesome pair of brand new Nike running tights on Poshmark last year (at a super discount too). I’ve noticed that I find the best sales during the off season. For example, next month would be a good time to search listing for Winter running gear since we’re going into Spring. I’ve also heard good things about the ThredUp website but haven’t shopped on there yet.
Running Warehouse
I really like the Running Warehouse website because they have everything from nutrition items to running sneakers. When I was looking for a pair of Brooks sneakers, they were sold out in my size on the Brooks website but I was able to go to Running Warehouse and not only find the sneakers in my size, but for a little bit cheaper as well! They also offer free 2-day shipping and they have a great return policy. I’ve had to contact their customer service department twice and both times they were super friendly and accommodating.
Amazon
Of course Amazon had to be included in this list! I’ve actually found that Amazon is a great resource if you’re looking for “out of date” items. What I mean by that is any items from last season or the previous version of sneakers. I also love to shop Amazon to purchase any items for themed races because I can always find affordable items and because I’m an Amazon Prime member, I can get the items in 1-2 days.
TJ Maxx or Marshalls
I haven’t been to TJ Maxx or Marshalls since March (I miss it!) but both stores offer great workout gear, especially if you’re looking for name brand items like Nike, Puma, Adidas, etc. Also I don’t have a Ross – Dress for Less store nearby but I’ve heard from friends in other states that it’s a great place to find workout clothes at a discount.
Old Navy
Last, but certainly not least, Old Navy! I would estimate that around 80-90% of my workout gear comes from Old Navy. Not only is it affordable (especially when they have numerous 50% off sales throughout the year), but their athletic gear is cute and durable. They sell compression shorts, capri length and leggings in tons of different colors which is perfect because I wear all of those for running, OTF workouts, yoga, etc.

TJ Maxx and Marshalls were always good places to buy workout clothes, but over the past year or so, I haven’t had as good luck there! I buy a few things from Amazon too. I still like Inknburn!

I can usually find more items at Marshalls vs TJ Maxx which is weird because they are both owned by the same parent company lol

I find I use different stores for different items of sports clothing. So for example, I love a store called Mr Price Sport for my running tees but not for sports bras. I made the error of buying a sports bra from them a couple of weeks ago and yesterday had to throw it out, it was so ill-fitting! So I won’t use them for sports bras anymore!
kookyrunner says
That’s very true! Unfortunately I can never find good sports bras at these places so I usually have to order those from the Brooks website (I wear the Moving Comfort Juno bras).

Good tips, Kim!
I’m always on the lookout for good deals on running wear whenever I’m visiting a city and browse through the shops.
For standardized items like running shoes, I go online and usually end up buying on Amazon.
And I should add that I wear good quality race shirts until they fall apart!

I also love to browse shops when I travel. It always seems like they have things I don’t see in my city, lol.

Yes, Old Navy for the win!!! In all honestly, I have the best luck with finding fitness gear there than anywhere else. Well, Target has served me well, too LOL I try to get my shoes at a nearby running specialty store (to support the local businesses), but I have gotten previous seasons’ shoes online.
kookyrunner says
LoL, yet another thing we have in common 🙂 I’ve gotten a few cute shirts from Target and a sports bra a few years ago. It’s funny because although I know Target has clothing, I only go in there for food and household items – I never browse the clothing section, lol.

You inspired me to check out Old Navy and I have found some really cute tops there 🙂 Runners Warehouse is definitely my go-to place for running shoes, especially when I’m trying to stock up on an older model.
kookyrunner says
Yay! I’m glad that you have been able to find cute workout gear at Old Navy. I always recommend them when people ask where to find workout clothing. I love Runners Warehouse for sneakers!

Obviously it used to be mainly Skirt Sports. Now not so much I need (although there are a few things I wish I had more of).
I’ve had to turn to Ebay (well, have Mr. Judy do it) for my beloved Newtons though! It’s saved the day on more than one occasion.
kookyrunner says
eBay can really be a great place to find hard-to-find items – I’ve lucked out there multiple times 🙂

I’ve not had luck at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I’ve found the few things I’ve gotten fit weird. Like they’re there for “a reason”. I do love Running Warehouse. As much as I try to shop local, the stores around here don’t seem to have much in stock. It’s sad.
kookyrunner says
Yeah some if the items can be sized a little “off” – sometimes I need to size up or down when I get shirts from there.
It’s hard for me to shop local too as the running store in my city closed a few years ago and the nearest one is about 30 minutes away and they rarely have my size in sneakers so that’s a bummer.

This is a great list, definitely need to check out the Running Wearhouse.
Most of my workout gear comes from Old Navy and Target, I think. I bought a couple of things off of Amazon and I have a few “brand pieces” (but usually bought on sale or with a gift card).
kookyrunner says
Same! I usually only buy Nike items when I have a gift card 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I have sold a bunch of stuff on Poshmark. I also buy some of the older hard to find Lululemon running skirts that I love on there. One upside to the current situation is that there have been lots of good sales!
kookyrunner says
All of this time at home definitely gave people extra incentive to clean out their closets lol
Denise @ runheartfit says
I always forget about Marshalls and TJmax. Target has decent tops but I’m pretty picky about my shorts. I like InknBurn and am fortunate to get a generous discount so they are my first choice. I get my shoes at Shoebuy because I now what I like and they have the best price.
kookyrunner says
I always forgot about Target. The Inkburn tops are always so colorful – I love them but I don’t own any yet.
Coco says
In the before times? Mostly Athleta. Lately? The Skirt Sports clearance items. 😉
kookyrunner says
I keep forgetting to check out Skirt Sports for their clearance items. Thanks for the reminder!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Running Warehouse and Amazon are also on my list. I rarely shop at Old Navy but I know you’ve found some great stuff there.
kookyrunner says
I love Running Warehouse for sports bras and sneakers.
Cari says
I love Poshmark. I’m missing Modells (never reopened after COVID shutdown due to their bankruptcy) as they carried a sports bra that really sat well on me. It’s so hard to find new ones (styles), and I just heard Champion discontinued theirs.
I love me some TJ Maxx. The one Marshalls we have isn’t very good. I miss Kohls
kookyrunner says
The Modells near me was going out of business before Covid, but they have reopened which is so confusing, lol.
Cari says
Bizarre, but yay for their staff.
I <3 their Morel bras.
