Happy Sunday! With the big race over, it was time for me to embrace recovery. I’m actually surprised at how good my body felt toward the end of the week. I originally had planned on taking the whole week off from running, but my legs felt really good! I was able to get in a few miles and some strength training, so overall, it was a good week!
Here’s how my workouts went this week as I recover from the marathon.
Monday, October 14
Rest Day/Travel Back to CT.
I got home on Monday afternoon. Once I unpacked and showered, I didn’t do much of anything. My legs were trashed and stairs were my enemy. However, I did enjoy #MedalMonday and added two new medals to my medal holder!
Tuesday, October 15
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength (60 minutes).
Yes, a little crazy to do an OTF class 48 hours a marathon, but I had classes to use up before the next billing cycle. I didn’t use the treadmill during class – instead I opted to use the bike since my legs still didn’t feel 100%. It was a fine substitute as I still got a super sweaty workout! The floor block of class was fine since my upper body felt fine.
Wednesday, October 16
Rest Day.
I ran a few errands and posted my Chicago Marathon Race Recap.
Thursday, October 17
Rest Day.
I had planned on trying to get in a short run but honestly I just got lazy.
Friday, October 18
OrangeTheory Fitness – Endurance (60 minutes).
My first official day back to running, and it felt good! The treadmill block for class was pretty rough but I was able to handle it well and I got a new “all out” PR as well. During the “all out” sections, you run as fast as you can for either 30 or 60 seconds. I was happy to see a speed that I’ve never seen before in my life!
Later on that night, I met up with the women in my BGR run group at Pieology for dinner. We like to meet up ever now and then to enjoy laughs and good conversation.
Saturday, October 19
3.1 miles + OrangeTheory Breast Cancer Awareness Class (60 minutes).
Started off the morning with a 3.1 mile outdoors run. It was a little cold at the start of my run but I warmed up within the first mile.
Then I completed an OTF class in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The class was donation only and the studio raised $800 for Stamford Hospital! It was a great power/strength class with tons of inclines on the treadmill. Always fun to workout for a cause!
Sunday, October 20
Rest Day.
I planned on doing a spinning class but by the time I got down running errands and meal prepping, I was beat. I did get in a 5 min core class on the Peloton app. Oh well, I’m still technically in recovery, right?
Total Weekly Mileage: 7.1 miles
Summary: 3 runs, 3 strength training workouts
Grade This Week – A
Well, not much to report this week (as expected), but I still wanted to provide a breakdown on what I’ve been up to since Chicago. I enjoyed having this week off from work. It was a great time to not only recover from the race but also get a recharge from work before we hot our super busy season.
I have the Charlotte Half Marathon in a month so I will start adding in some longer runs to my schedule next week. That race is strictly for fun as I know the course is pretty hilly and you all know how I feel about running hills. It will be a nice “sexy pace” run. I’m also hoping I can see my aunt and cousins since they don’t live too far away from Charlotte.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

It was a full class at OTF yesterday which was awesome because that just meant more money going to charity 🙂
I’m happy with the workouts I got in this week. I’ll go back to my regular workout schedule starting tomorrow.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Yes, you are in recovery! Although that’s a whole lot of OTF for recovery! Glad to hear you’re feeling good, heading off to read your marathon recap . . .

Thanks Judy! My legs felt surprisingly good by Thursday/Friday so I was able to run at OTF for those classes later on in the week.

That OTF class is such a great idea! What an excellent way of supporting a great cause and getting in some sweat equity in the process…total Win-Win! Glad your recovery is going so well 😉

Congrats on the Chicago marathon. I didn’t realize you were doing the 5K too! Wow!!! You deserve a recovery week. Loved the picture of you and your friends in pink.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Laurie! The 5K was a really good shake out run but I just wish our walk back to the hotel wasn’t so long!

Haha, that is one recovery week. To me it means doing some walking here and there. 🙂 Have fun in Charlotte! It should be even more fun to see family
kookyrunner says
Yeah I’m really hoping we can make it work. They live about 2.5 hours from Charlotte.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
After running a marathon is the only time I regretted getting a house with an upstairs lol. Take all the time your body needs! Marathons are tough. I’m excited to read your recap, I’m gonna have to do it after work so I can give it my full attention. But I’ll come back to read it soon!
kookyrunner says
Stairs are the enemy, lol.
Thanks Montana! Hope you enjoy the race recap when you read it later 🙂
Chaitali says

we got home just this past Sunday. still need to catch up and read your marathon recap too!! glad I got to see you, if even for only 10 min at the expo!
kookyrunner says
Pieology is one of my favorite pizza places in my city – you can totally customize it and most of the toppings are free!
So glad I was able to see you in Chicago!
Jenn says
Love this! And I think that if you ever had a week to be lazy, this is the one. I would have probably sat out all week from everything!
Love that ON shirt., They have some of the best activewear: it’s good quality and affordable, while being cute as heck!
kookyrunner says
Old Navy continues to be my go to for activewear for that reason – stylish, comfortable and affordable!
Sandra D Laflamme says
Good plan to not just hop right back on the treadmill. It’s tempting to get right back to running but never a good plan. Sounds like your post race recovery is going well!
kookyrunner says
It’s so tempting, but I wanted to give my legs a few days off from running – they deserved it!
Cari says
Congrats on the strong recovery. Way to go on the all out PR
I’m going to try some OTF classes after December 9 – our gala – as I think it will be a huge help in Winter/Spring Half training.
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that you are gonna take OTF classes – you will love it!
Cari says
I’m looking forward to trying them. Thought that as I went past the finally open studio yesterday. There was just no way to integrate this fall
