Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a great week. For once I can say the week didn’t seem that long – it felt like a regular work week for once. Our weather was kind of wacky, as usual, but I’m thankful for sunshine and no rain this weekend.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, May 11
Peloton Hip Hop Ride: Live From Home 5/8/20 – Alex (30 minutes)
Peloton Hip Hop Ride 4/23/20 – Tunde (20 minutes)
Peloton Power Walk 2/19/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
My allergies were kicking my butt so I had very low energy for these workouts but I did the best that I could. The cycle classes were great – both instructors are high energy and the music was really good.
Tuesday, May 12
Peloton 2000’s Bootcamp 3/14/20 – Jess (60 minutes)
I’ve been gravitating toward the boot camp classes a lot more lately because they are the closest thing I’ve found to OTF workouts. I still REALLY miss my OTF classes, but this week it was hitting me harder for some odd reason. The boot camp classes help me to just focus on the instructor and the workout for a solid 60 minutes – it’s a good escape from everything!
Wednesday, May 13
Peloton Warm Up Walk 12/7/19 – Matty (10 minutes)
Peloton HIIT Ride 3/21/20 – Alex (30 minutes)
Peloton Upper Body: Live From Home 5/7/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
The HIIT ride was really hard. My legs just weren’t feeling it no matter how hard I was pushing through the workout. The upper body workout left me with jelly arms which is exactly the feeling I was going for, so it worked, lol.
Thursday, May 14
Peloton 90s Bootcamp 2/8/20 – Jess (60 minutes)
I had to do a grocery run in the morning so this was a nice lunchtime workout. I really loved this class because I knew all the songs and could sing along and each floor block focus on a different body group – core, upper body and full body.
Friday, May 15
Peloton Hip Hop Ride: Live From Home 5/8/20 – Alex (30 minutes)
Peloton BOO-Tacular DJ Ride 10/31/19 – Matt (30 minutes)
Peloton Cool Down Walk 9/8/19 – Selena (10 minutes)
This was a fun morning of rides! I did the hip hope class with Virjinia and Meri. It was nice to ride virtually with friends and I want to do that more often! Then I took a Halloween themed ride. No clue how I missed this class back in October!
Saturday, May 16
4 mile run + 2.2 mile walk.
My mom and I did our first run/walk for the Un-Canceled Project (part 2). Even though we got out early, the park was very “peoplely”, so we changed up our walking route after completing 4 miles. Originally I wanted to run the 6.2 miles but I made the mistake of taking my allergy medicine too late on Friday night so I woke up very groggy š
The Starbucks near my house finally re-opened! I don’t go there regularly but it’s nice to have the option. The process for getting your order is great. You order via the app, someone greets you outside the store, asks for your name, and then brings the drinks out to you. Easy peasy and all about social distancing – I loved it!
Sunday, May 17
Peloton BHM Celebraton Bootcamp 2/1/20 – Jess (60 minutes).
Closed out the week with another bootcamp class. I did 3 bootcamp classes this week and I think I’ll continue this moving forward. These classes are a great way to get in both cardio and strength training. I feel like I get an amazing workout in 60 minutes. Also, Jess is my favorite instructor. She’s funny, confident, and no nonsense!
Total Weekly Mileage: 13.3 miles
Summary: 4 runs*, 5 cycle class, 4 strength workouts.
*I include running from my OTF workouts, boot camp classes and stand alone runs as well.
Grade This Week ā A
On Monday I signed up for the Un-Canceled Project 2. I think I may have already missed the prompt for the first week (oops!) but better to join late than never right? I like that there are a ton of distance options to choose from. I think I’ll stick with the 5k and 10k distances for now.
Friday was my dad’s 70th birthday! Definitely not how we imagined celebrating a milestone birthday, but we made the best of it. I ordered decorations from Party City, purchased two cakes from a local bakery, and ordered dinner from one of his favorite restaurants. Quarantine celebrations will continue to be weird, but I feel like my family is mastering it at this point, lol. So far we’ve had my birthday and parents anniversary in April, Mother’s Day and my dad’s birthday in May, and I am sure we will celebrate Father’s Day indoors as well.
Remember that Outrun Hunger Virtual 5K race I did last week? Well they featured me on their social media pages this week. I thought that was pretty cool and I was happy to see how much money they raised!
…and because I always like to end my post with a little humor..
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š
Iām linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: What was the worst thing that happened to you at a race?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
And I always love your memes at the end (especially that last one!).
I actually did sign up for the Peloton app while it was still free for 3 months. So far I’ve just been doing quick cycle workouts (often as a warm up for a run or ST). I already found an instructor I really like — but I have yet to find a workout with music I really like. š
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that you found an instructor that you really like! I think that you may be able to sort the classes by genre of music. I’m not sure what style of music you like, but they have rap, country, r&b, pop, etc. I hope you find one that you like!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Happy belated birthday to your dad! I love the toilet paper cake – it’s so appropriate for what we’re going through.
Congrats on your great week of workouts!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Debbie! The toilet paper cake was cute and so yummy too!
Jessie says
Love the re-opening plan š I am curious though how it will work on the east coast; its so hard for people to keep distance there.
Awesome how Starbucks is making things work- that green smoothie looks so refreshing.
Happy birthday to your dad and glad you could be together!
kookyrunner says
Yes it will be very interesting re-opening here. I’m very nervous and hope that people use common sense and still practice social distancing.
Catrina says
Ha, love the picture with your Dad cracking open the Veuve Clicquot! Celebrating in style!
Nice workout week, Kim!
Great that you joined the Un-Canceled Project – the 5k and 10k distances are perfect in combination with all your other workouts.
Starbucks feels like a treat, doesn’t it? I’ll go this week as well for the first time.
kookyrunner says
Haha thanks! It was a good birthday celebration š
I’m excited about the Un-Canceled Project because I need some motivation for my runs!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
I think that, when my husband finally gets home, we’re going to invest in a Peloton! All those classes actually sound like fun!
That toilet paper cake is too funny! People that can make cakes like that just amaze me. I’m decent with baking (the pans do all the shape work for me) but the frosting part – well, I can make a cake look okay but basic would be a solid definition! lol
What is that from Starbucks? I hardly ever go anyway so I’m not up on all the drinks!!
kookyrunner says
That would be awesome! If you decided to get one, let me know and I have a code I can give you to save money on the accessories.
The cake was so cute and delicious too. The bakery that we got it from has been in my city for years and everyone there is so talented! It’s the only place we buy birthday cakes from.
I got the green tea frap from Starbucks. It’s my treat that I get a few times a year.
Coco says
Youāve got me hooked on those bootcamps, and I love Jess too, although I would like the option to RSVP ānoā to some of her āplank parties.ā š I love how you set the table for your Dadās birthday ā and how festive he looks. That TP cake, though ā truly a sign of the times!
kookyrunner says
Haha her plank parties and listening games are hard, but fun! I’m glad that you are loving the bootcamps so far š
The TP cake was not only funny but so yummy!
Wendy says
LOL, those memes! I found some really funny ones too! There are some creative people out there.
Happy birthday to your dad! He does not look anywhere close to 70!
Nice job on all your workouts.
kookyrunner says
The memes the past two months have been amazing!
My dad said thank you š
Deborah Brooks says
you do find the best memes! Way to crush the workouts this week. I am also loving Alex’s classes they are really challenging. Bootcamps are hard I’ve done 2 which means I need to do more of them. Happy birthday to your dad! These quarantine birthdays are tough
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that you are loving the bootcamps so far! I agree – they are so challenging. I think I’m going to try to do 2-3 a week.
Marcia says
Great week of workouts for you! Happy Birthday to your dad! My dad actually turns 81 today.
OMG that 6 phase plan meme is IL to a tee and we’re nowhere near opening up. I think we’re in phase 2…whatever that means. Haha!
kookyrunner says
Awwe happy birthday to your dad! š
Kimberly Hatting says
I do appreciate your humor…especially that last meme about phases. It will be confusing & unpredictable, but all the re-opening will have to be kind of trial & error. I think we all will need to respectful of everyoneās level of comfort, too. Great week of workouts, youāre rocking the boot camp!
kookyrunner says
Yeah the states re-opening process is really just not the best. I know it’s going to be a lot of trial and error but I hope that doesn’t result in more loss of human life š
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Your memes continue to make me chuckle š
Happy Birthday to your dad – it looks like you all did a good job of celebrating. That toilet paper cake is the best!
You make those boot camp classes sound like a lot of fun! Nice week of workouts!
kookyrunner says
The toilet paper cake was so cute and also delicious!
The boot camp classes really remind me of the OTF workouts and they are great if you wan’t to run, but only short periods at a time.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I always appreciate the humor at the end of your posts:) Great job with your workouts this week! I tried a Peloton cycle class for the first time this week and it was fun! I love that you guys had a toilet paper cake-happy birthday to your dad!
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that you enjoyed the Peloton class that you took last week – that’s great!
Liz Dexter says
Ha – I love that loo roll cake for your dad! Good solid work and yay, you ran with your mum. Peoply is a thing in parks and it’s so annoying. I’m sitting here at 10am working through a list of parks and which might be least peoply right now!
kookyrunner says
Yeah the parks here are getting more crowded. I understand because the weather is nicer, but it makes it more difficult to run there.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Happy Birthday to your dad! I love that cake. So fun! Happy to see you signed up for the Uncanceled Project 2. I did too and am determined to actually do complete it this time. I haven’t been to Starbucks in months. I often run by one and there is always a line of cars waiting to place their order. I haven’t checked if they offer curbside pick. I think that’s what it is called?
kookyrunner says
I think the Uncanceled Project will give me more motivation to run. I’ve been gravitating more toward cycle, strength training and shorter runs, but I’d like to run longer distances if possible.
About Starbucks, I’m not sure if they are calling it curbside pickup but that’s what I’m calling it, lol
SJ says
Looks like you had a good week, dispite allergies. Love that toilet paper cake and that last meme is spot on. Hope you have another good one!
kookyrunner says
Thanks SJ!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Happy birthday to your dad! I absolutely love that cake. How creative!
Our Starbucks has that format too. It’s nice to have it open again and have them being responsible about ordering. I feel like your memes describe Florida perfectly lol. I don’t think anyone has any idea what they are doing. I’m just adding back group runs, not changing anything else. I don’t really feel comfortable going into stores or anything yet.
Also Boo tacular- that’s awesome. I really wish I had a Peloton bike.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! The cakes were both so delicious too!
I think that all the states are just flying by the seat of their pants at this point!
Laetitia says
I also never thought I’d be that excited for Starbucks but I make terrible coffee at home and it was amazing on Sunday to treat myself to a chai latte that I didn’t have to make myself š
kookyrunner says
I always think of Starbucks has a treat because I normally get a green tea frap and I definitely can’t make those at home, lol
Darlene S Cardillo says
Only week 9…ugh!
You are killing those peleton workouts.
Love that toilet paper cake!
Green tea frap….. yum. Since i;m not working I’m not near a Starbucks…maybe a good thing.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I can’t believe it’s only been 9 weeks. I feel like it’s been months!
Jenn says
Happy birthday to your dad! I’m so glad you all got to celebrate together!
I’m also glad to see things starting to open a little! That must give a bit of hope. Here’s to hoping it continues safely.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! We had a good birthday celebration for him.
I am really worried about things re-opening this week. I might be overly cautious but I just don’t feel like we’re ready just yet, but I guess there is never going to be a perfect time to re-open.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great work! It sounds like the Peloton classes are really fun. I haven’t had a good Bootcamp workout in years!
Happy birthday to your dad, I love the TP cake! I need to find a bakery in Philly that does the same, lol!
kookyrunner says
The Peloton classes have been really great! They have definitely kept me sane during this “stay at home” period!
