Happy Sunday! My Fall race training officially came to a close this weekend. It’s been a busy few months but I was able to run some really cool races during that time. I don’t have any races scheduled for the winter but that might change – I’ll just have to see how I’m feeling after some rest from longer distance running.
My workouts went well this week. I was dealing with a bad case of DOMS so that led to not running for most of the week. I was just happy that I finally felt back to normal by Friday! Here’s how my week went.
Monday, December 3
Walking (30 minutes).
We got back home from San Antonio in the afternoon. I was still super sore so a walk felt like the best option.
Tuesday, December 4
Spinning (30 minutes).
I was now on day #2 of DOMS so a 30 minute spinning class was all I could handle. All the music for the ride was disco music which was really fun (I love disco music)!
Wednesday, December 5
Boot Camp (60 minutes).
Day #3 of DOMS, but my legs felt a little bit better so I decided to go to my weekly boot camp class. I modified a few moves so the quads wouldn’t continue to scream at me.
Thursday, December 6
2 mile run + Spinning (45 minutes).
My legs finally felt somewhat normal so I decided to do a nice and easy 2 mile run after taking a 45 minute spinning class.
Friday, December 7
Rest Day (Travel to Charleston, SC).
Saturday, December 8
Kiawah Island Half Marathon (Race recap coming next week).
I was able to knock off another state (#11) on my quest to run in 25 states. This half marathon was beautiful and I would totally recommend it.
Sunday, December 9
Rest Day (Travel back to CT).
Total Weekly Mileage: 15.1 miles
Summary: 2 runs, 2 spinning classes, 1 walk, 1 boot camp class.
Grade This Week ā A
I am pretty beat! I’ve been traveling the past three weekends (Washington DC, San Antonio, TX and Charleston, SC). I don’t really ever travel that much back to back so I’m more than ready for a break. I have a local 5K in two weeks but after that my schedule is pretty clear. I’m debating if I want to put running on the back burner and focus more on strength (particularly leg strength) or still do some shorter runs but make the main focus strength training. Right now it’s probably 70% running/cardio and 30% strength but I might work on flipping those percentages for the first few months of the year. I feel like my body is so beat up right now that going easy on the running might be the best thing – we’ll see!
I’m back to work next week so I’m sure Monday will be loads of fun š It’s always hard to go back to work after a week off. I’ll probably spend half the day replying back to emails but hopefully it won’t be too bad. I’m also hoping that I can finish up my holiday shopping this week. After this weekend I refuse to go into stores because it’s just too crazy and I have no patience to deal with all of that, lol.
How was your week? Do you have any fun races left this year?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Congrats on Kiawah! Two halfs in 2 weeks is no joke. I don’t blame you for wanting a break. I feel that way myself–but I have one more half in a month. After that, I’m dialing it down for a bit. I think it’s great that you want to increase the strength training. I will say (and my friend Steph would agree) that the heavy lifting we do with Sammy Jo has really helped keep the injuries away. I have cut back to running 3 days per week and I haven’t lost any fitness, so there’s that too…let me know if you have any questions. I’m no expert but I can be a sounding board foryou!
Thanks Wendy! My soreness isn’t too bad right now so I may get lucky, lol. I’ve been experimenting with running 3x a week for the past few months, but I haven’t increased my strength training that much so I will need to work on that. I may be reaching out to you in the future for some advice (thanks for offering)!
I cannot wait to hear about your half! Sounds like the perfect spot for a racecation with the girls. 2 half races in 2 weeks?! Wow hope you get dome rest this week
Thanks! Yes, doing 2 halfs in 2 weeks was NOT my smartest idea. My body doesnt bounce back like it used to lol
I don’t have the state of SC (I do have NC) — and I live in the South! I’m glad to hear you like the Kiawah race. Your wise to give you body some recovery time after a busy fall racing season. It’s stressful to admit I’ve barely even started with my shopping…but I’d also like to finish up this week too. Thanks for linking!
Thanks Holly! My body is screaming for a few days of downtime so I will definitely listen. Plus i need to really figure out why my IT band issue keeps going away and coming back.
That is a whole lotta racing & travel! I so want to do Kiawah. Someday . . . maybe even next year, who knows? Can’t want to hear about it!
Even though I’m training, there has been a LOT of racing since July, so I’m taking it a bit easier this time around. But running is actually going pretty well (knock on wood).
Sometimes our bodies really need that break.
If you are thinking of doing it, sign up soon because they are running a special – only $41 for the half or full! š
I’m glad that running has been going well for you recently!
You’ve been so busy with races lately! Sounds like it was smart to take a break from running while you recovered from last weekends race. I am refusing to go into any stores for holiday shopping too!
Thanks Lisa! I admire people that travel all the time for work, there’s no way I could do it. You will not see me anywhere near a mall starting next week, lol!
I had no idea you had this half coming up until I saw you Instagram post last night. Great job!! Are you hoping for all of the races (in the different states) to be half marathons, or just any race distance? I”m on a similar quest, but I’m shooting for all 50 states, but I just want races in general…no preference of what distance. I knocked out a huge chunk of my holiday shopping yesterday, so now I can focus on all the baking š
Thanks Kim! Yeah this one I didn’t really talk about so much because I thought it was a smaller race but I was wrong! There were a few thousand runners for sure. For my 25 state quest, I want to do either a half or full marathon in those states. I don’t know how long it will take me to reach that goal but I think knocking off 2-3 states a year is manageable (and affordable)! I’m so jealous that you are basically done with holiday shopping.
You are just amazing! 2 half marathons in 2 weeks? Wow! And you traveled to both of them, no less. Are you relieved or disappointed that your fall race schedule is over?
Thanks Laurie! There was a time a few years ago where I did 3 half marathons in 3 weeks and felt absolutely fine. Yeah, that’s not really the case now, lol. I’m hurting today but trying to keep moving so that the soreness doesn’t get too bad. I’m relieved that I don’t have any races for a few more months!
I’ve had bad cases of DOMS before, most recently this past weekend. I totally understand not working out after one of those!
The Kiawah Island half marathon sounds fun! I was wondering why that race sounded familiar but I just signed on with Beast Pacing and I feel like they do the pacing for that event? Could be where I heard of it.
It was really so painful. It was almost like I had never worked out before, it was so weird! I did see pacers for the race on Saturday – I’m not sure if it was Beast Pacing though.
You’ve had quite the busy schedule! Congratulations on getting state #11! I agree that Mondays are rough after time off but think of all the stories you’ll get to share with your coworkers! I am feeling DOMS myself – after a 5k and ice skating haha.
That’s so true! I’ll probably speak to a few coworkers later on this afternoon about my travels.
You’re brave for ice skating! I feel like my ankle would be sore for days and days if I ever tried ice skating again.
So much DOMS – but then you pulled out a Half?! You are amazing! That medal is pretty cool. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one shaped like an animal. I actually had time to kill near a shopping mall last week and opted to hang out at a restaurant instead. I just wasn’t up to the sensory overload! I hope work reentry isn’t too bad. Hopefully you can delete a lot of emails!
My DOMS finally subsided for the most part by Friday. My legs didn’t feel fresh for the half but they still worked well enough for me to finish lol.
I don’t want to be anywhere near a mall starting next week haha. Hooray for Amazon Prime
You HAVE been traveling a ton for races! Sounds like a smart plan to ease up and focus on strength! Sounds fun too š
Kiawah Island looks so pretty…was there a full marathon too? Any downsides to the race, or did you love it all? Guess I have to wait to read the recap!
Yup, I’m definitely looking forward to a bit of rest and no more traveling for a while!
Yes, Kiawah has a full marathon as well. There were a few downsides but nothing too crazy. I’m going to try to recap the race this week!
Oh fun medal. Charleston is such a great city.
Hot Chocolate 15K is a local-ish one to you I’m looking forward to-April 27. I’m undecided on it myself due to some plans that month that I need to solidify first
It’s really an amazing city – I enjoyed my time there for sure!
I’m doing the Hot Chocolate 15K race in Philly on April 6
Wow. Another half. No wonder you had DOMS
congrats on adding a new state.
Enjoy your off season but I predict some races in there.
Thanks Darlene. I was able to run races in 4 new states this year so that makes me happy š
Yeah I think you’re right…I’m probably going to do a race before April.
I love that medal! I am done with shopping, and I didn’t buy anything at a brick and mortar store. Online shopping is so much easier!
Online shopping is the best invention ever lol
Congratulations on your half marathon! I visited Charleston a few years ago and loved it – Kiawah Island is great!
You’ve been so busy and still getting in some quality workouts – I don’t blame you for having some DOMS! Moving to strength work in the winter sounds like a great plan. I’m still debating what I’m doing since I have a bit of rebuilding to do before seriously training for any races!
I haven’t done any holiday shopping yet…I’m the worst!
It’s such a pretty town. I wish I had more time to spend there but I had to adult and go back to work today, lol!
Girl, you better get started on that holiday shopping!
That medal is so cute! Congratulations!
You have been doing a ton of traveling in the last weeks! It can be fun, but I’m sure you’re glad to be home, too.
I have one, maybe two, short races for the rest of the year. I’m kind of excited for them both.
Thanks so much Jenn! I’m really loving the medal from that race.
I’m so happy to be home for an extended period of time. I love getting to see new places but hate the travel it takes to get there lol
Great Job!! I’m done racing for the year but I’m hoping that I get a few races in next year.
Thanks Jenny!
3 days of DOMS is just all kinds of wrong! Congrats on Kiawah and checking off another state! Hope the return to work today wasn’t too bad š
Tell me about it! It was quite miserable and I hope to never have DOMS for that long again.
You’ve been a busy girl. All that travel is exhausting not to mention the running! Can’t wait to hear more about Kiawah. So glad you got chance to meet up with Abby!
Thanks Marcia! It was so good to see Abby again. The last time I saw her was 2016 so it had been a while!
Congrats – 2 half marathons in 2 weeks! I can understand being ready for a break after that. I’m with you on refusing to go into stores – I went out for a couple errands Saturday and it was not pleasant.
Thanks Hannah! Luckily my soreness is not too bad this week – I thought it would be worse because of the 2 races so close together.
Wow! you have had a busy Fall and I have enjoyed following your events!! The Kiawah race sounds great…LOVE the medal!! š
Thanks Angela!
