Happy Wednesday! We’re halfway through the first work week of 2018 and I have to say, so far so good! Did you all have a great holiday? I hope that you were able to spend quality time with friends and family 🙂
The start of a new year is all about new goals, so what better time to discuss my goals for January!
First, let’s take a look at my goals from December:
Get in at least one double-digit run
Grade: A
Success! I was able to get in a 10 and 12 mile run in December. The 10 miler wasn’t too bad but that 12 miler hurt!
Start planning my 2018 racing schedule
Grade: A
I’m pretty happy with the races that I have planned thus far for 2018. I’m sure there will be some additions along the way but it looks good so far!
Finish a running book
Grade: A
I finally finished a book! I am notorious for starting a book but never finishing it. I finally had some down time over the holidays and I used that to finish up a book I started reading this summer.
Here are my three main goals for January.
Go vegetarian for a week
I actually started this yesterday so we’ll see how it goes. If I fail, I’ll just try again the following week! It’s not that i eat a ton of meat, but I know that eliminating it will force me to get more creative with my meals. It will also make me eat more vegetables and fruits as well. Although I didn’t list it as a 2018 goal, I really want to work on my nutrition this year.
Hit all my workouts
Since I’m now in training, I want to make sure that I hit all my workouts on my training plan. Now I’m usually pretty good about this, but with the weather being SUPER cold, I find that my motivation is not at 100%. If we could just get a few 30 degree days back, I would be a very happy runner, lol.
Get back to daily PT exercises
So far so good on this goal but I want to make sure I continue it throughout the month. My lack of consistency with this has been showing in my running through various aches and pains and I want to try to avoid this as much a possible. Bring more diligent about doing my hip strengthening exercises will really pay off in the long run.
Do you set monthly goals? Do you have any goals for January?
I’m linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama and Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday.
I’m also linking up with Rachel from Running on Happy, Lora from Crazy Running Girl and Debbie from Coach Debbie Runs for Coaches’ Corner!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
These sounds like great goals! Its so hard to get motivated in this cold weather. Im kind of glad Im not training for anything right now, but part of me feels like I need something to work towards!
kookyrunner says
Ugh, it’s so hard and now we’re supposed to get snow tomorrow and Saturday – i see some treadmill runs in my future!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Kudos on getting those double digit runs in last month! This weekend will be my first in a really long time…I’m nervous! The motivation is really tough with the weather but I will say seeing everyone else’s posts on IG definitely helps! And I’m def interested to see how your vegetarian life goes!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I agree that seeing posts on IG help to motivate me!
Hopefully our runs this weekend go well (fingers crossed)!
Wendy says
These sound like reasonable goals! I need to get back on track with my nutrition too. I did such a good job with it last year and I’ve really slacked off.
kookyrunner says
I have totally slacked off on nutrition since early December!
Deborah Brooks says
You are really starting off the year strong! If you need any vegetarian tips feel free to give me a shout out. Good luck!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah! I have so many recipe ideas from your blog 🙂
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
No monthly goals here! I love that Meme and makes me think that doing things in “less than ideal conditions” is more fun because it’s a challenge and will probably become more memorable!
kookyrunner says
i love that meme too because it really is so true!
Karen says
I can always tell when I miss a PT workout, too. You’ve set some great goals for the month! Have a great one!
kookyrunner says
Same here! I am happy that I’m being more diligent about it right now.
Chaitali says
Great job for the December goals! I’ve had a hard time with motivation with the super cold weather too. Hopefully it goes back to normal Winter weather soon 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I think we’ll be back to normal winter weather next week 🙂
The Accidental Marathoner says
Happy New Year! I had a quite NYE at home and was in bed by 10:30 a.m.! These are all great and achievable goals for the month, and I’m looking forward to watching you achieve them all! I’m not good at setting small or monthly goals–I usually set goals that are too big and lofty and inevitably find myself stressed trying to achieve them!
kookyrunner says
Happy New Year! Thanks so much for the kind words!
Renee says
great december! goals look good too! I haven’t set any monthly goals yet – I’m breaking my goals down by week! right now I’m at 10K steps a day and no junk at work as my goal. I’ll probably have something more concrete in a few weeks 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Renee! I like the idea of breaking down the goals weekly instead of monthly.
I actually cleaned out my food drawer at work right before New Years and re-stocked it with healthy stuff!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Way to kick ass with your December goals. I have no doubt you’ll do the same this month! Happy new year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Nicole!
Kimberly Hatting says
I needed this kick in the running tights to remember to do some daily PT myself. My body kind of went through a major rehab experience last summer, so I need to keep all the maintenance in check.
kookyrunner says
It’s so easy for me to let PT fall by the wayside, especially if I’m not training!
Annmarie says
Great job with your December goals, I am sure you’ll know your January goals out of the park too! I also would love the weather to warm up – I really dislike hot weather but this cold is EXTREME.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Annmarie. Totally agree with you about the weather – I HATE summer but this frozen tundra weather is a bit ridiculous!
Rachel says
I bet you could be vegetarian for more than one week. I love eating vegetarian. I wish I were still 100% vegetarian to be honest, but it’s really hard to do with picky-eater kids. But the food is delish and my body feels so much better without meat!
kookyrunner says
I’m really considering making the switch but trying to really ease into it. I really don’t eat a lot of red meat, but it would be hard to give up chicken!
Debbie says
Go vegetarian! It’s really not hard and the animals will thank you. Great goals!
kookyrunner says
I’m really considering it, but I’m trying to ease into it. If I can handle a week, maybe I can handle 2 weeks, etc 🙂
Andrea says
We are only three days into 2018 and I already feel so behind! A round robin of flu in my house really set me back. I have a solo trip to Chicago this weekend and I’m hoping the solitude will let me catch up and get ahead!
kookyrunner says
Oh no! So sorry to heat that the flu was going around your household but hope that you all start to feel better soon.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Kiawah is actually one I’m considering, too. It’s been on my radar a long time, but I might end up doing Rehoboth because it’s driveable — or something altogether different! I think we need to decide before Feb, when the rates go up.
When my husband isn’t home I do eat vegetarian. Although I must say I’m cooking more turkey/chicken with the IP, although I do veggie meals in it too (like some chili tonight).
I don’t know anyone whose motivation isn’t lacking with this weather! Good luck, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Judy!
I hope that you can do Kiawah! I’ve heard that it’s a super pretty race!
My vegetarian week is going well so far and so far I’m only really missing chicken. I think that will be the one meat that will be hard to give up. I don’t really eat red meat.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
It looks like you’ve got a great year of racing lined up for yourself this year. Hopefully you can help inspire me to start focusing on mine a bit more. There are only three major races on my calendar right now.
kookyrunner says
Sometimes less is more though – I realized that back in 2016 after doing way too many races in 2015. I think having 3 major races is a good thing!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
You do not know how happy I am to see Kiawah on there.
Depending on how it goes in Chicago I may upgrade from the half to the full.
hmmmm…
kookyrunner says
I’m excited for that race – I just hope I’m not burnt out with running by then once it’s in December!
Smitha @ FauxRunner says
It may seem hard, but you can totally do vegetarian! Think of it as creating a colorful platter.
kookyrunner says
So true! I think that by starting out small I can make a huge difference in my diet. I’m on day 3 of my week challenge and so far so good.
Jessica @ I Am Teacher Fit says
Loving your January goals!! Wishing you a wonderful 2018!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jessica!
Toni says
Looks like alot of great goals, I sometimes post monthly goals. This year I have one goal…BQ at CHicago. Everything else is just a stepping tone to get there.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Toni. You can definitely get a BQ in Chicago – it’s pancake flat and the energy of the crowd is just amazing!
Farrah says
Best of luck to you on your goals! I’m hoping to be more consistent with my workouts!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Farrah! Being consistent with workouts is so important, especially when training!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Way to hit those December goals! Best wishes on hitting January’s as well.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Debbie!
