Happy Tuesday! Well this is certainly quite a year for a mid-year review. 2020 has been one for the record books. It was actually interesting to look back to see the goals I set for this year because I honestly couldn’t remember!
This week’s topic for Tuesday Topics is – Your 2020 Mid Year Review. Feel free to write about this or any running related topic. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
…and now it’s time for my mid-year review of my goals. Let’s get started!
Run a minimum of 50 miles per month
Status: On Track
I’ve hit this goal every month so far and I have no doubt I will continue to hit at least 50 miles a month for the rest of the year. So far my monthly mileage has been:
January – 60.1 miles
February – 52.2 miles
March – 65.9 miles
April – 60 miles
May – 60.5 miles
June – 73.2 miles
371.9 miles for the year so far. All things considered, I’m happy with that!
Burn 600 calories in an OTF class
Status: Off Track/Canceled
I’ve been close (580-590 calories), but did not hit 600 calories. My last class before the gym was closed to the COVID-19 was March 16th. Earlier in March I had a quick chat with the head coach and let him know my goal to reach 600 calories. He asked me why I wanted to hit that goal and I told him it just seemed like the next level to hit based on my calorie burn of 500-550 calories per class. He told me that based on my height and weight that I was already burning a great amount of calories and that I shouldn’t focus on the 600 number. In addition, I also had my heart rate monitor recalibrated during that meeting which would mean it would be harder for me to reach the green/orange zones for calorie burn. So based on that chat with the head coach, I am not longer striving for this goal.
300 Peloton Ride
Status: On Track
I’ll most likely hit this goal by the end of the summer or beginning of the Fall. I have been using my bike way more since COVID-19 started. Secretly I’m hoping I can hit 400 rides by the end of the year (finger crossed)!
Add 3 more states to my 25 State Challenge
Status: Off Track/Canceled
Yeah…so this goal is definitely not happening this year! I don’t plan on traveling anywhere so I won’t be able to add any new states. I actually doubt I’ll run any races this year at all. As much as I love to travel and do racecations, I just wouldn’t feel safe going anywhere this year. I am hopeful that I will be able to travel to a few new states next year – 2021 will be the year of travel!
That’s it for my mid-year review. I hope that the rest of the year is way less hectic than the first half!

You’re doing really well, Kim!
Hitting 50 miles a month is great, especially since you’re doing more OTF and Peloton workouts than running. I think you will hit the secret goal of 400 peloton rides.
Have a great second half of 2020!
Fortunately, the pandemic can’t stop us from keeping fit!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Catrina! Your last sentence is so true – When the pandemic started I was worried about not keeping up with my workouts but I feel like I almost became more disciplined through this whole ordeal.
Wendy says
Nice job hitting those miles and peloton rides! I think a lot of us have had to reevaluate our goals this strange year. For me, those goals are a constant work in progress.
kookyrunner says
For sure – 2020 is definitely the year of making adjustments!
Kimberly Hatting says
Hasn’t this been a year of constant head-scratching (and not from dandruff)? Smart move to bail on that 600 calorie burn number…just another number, right? YOU amaze me with all your Peloton work…I was thinking of you on my 47-mile ride the other day. I was wondering how anyone could have that much love for a bike LOL (of course, once we finished, my mind was much more clear on that notion). I’m looking forward to your reaching that 300 (AND 400) ride milestone!!
kookyrunner says
Yup, constant head scratching for sure! I often wonder if my love for spinning would translate to outdoor cycling.
Darlene says
Considering how crappy this year has been, you’ve done well.
Except for racing the same here.
I do hope to do a race.
We’ll see.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene! At this point, I’m not too hopeful for Fall races, but maybe there will be some holiday runs in December? (fingers crossed)
Deborah Brooks says
sounds like your OTF coach is a smart trainer. I agree that the calorie burn is not everything and I always wonder how accurate those are anyway. Way to go on all of your Peloton rides this summer. I am plugging away at my next milestone as well. Hope fully next week. Together we go far! 🙂
kookyrunner says
I agree. I actually want to compare the stats from my OTF heart rate monitor to my apple watch and see if they are similar.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
You’re crushing it, Kim! The state thing — yeah, I just wanted to add one. Doubt that will happen. 99% sure it won’t but never say never. 🙂
I don’t have a Peloton bike (I wish!), but I do use my stationary bike more with the app. And I did finally find the artist series again. That is one thing I don’t like about the app — to me some of the things are just in counter intuitive places.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy! Yeah, I’m just going to hold off on that half marathon challenge. There’s always next year 🙂
I agree with you about the app! I don’t think it’s very user friendly. The only way I know where to find things is because I spent a good amount of time of the app just exploring different things. I’ve had to tell a lot of people where to find the Artist Series classes on the app because it’s not very clear where it should be on the app.

2020…I give it one star. Do not recommend ;-p
You’re doing great on your goals so far! I’m lessening up the mileage for the next few months with no races to train for. My three extra states was a wash too. Now I’m shooting for more OTF classes…I should be at 25 by months’ end, and hopefully I can get to 50 by the end of September.
kookyrunner says
I think you can totally get to 50 OTF classes by the end of the year!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
With all of the craziness that 2020 has caused, I think you’ve had a great 6 months! No doubt you’ll hit 300 rides. And, hopefully, 2021 will behave itself and you can add in some extra states.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! Fingers crossed that we’ll be able to travel in 2021 🙂
Zenaida Arroyo says
There were also a few states I wanted to run in this year and that won’t happen either.
I wished I could say that I’ve used my bike way home during the pandemic. I have not. 🙁
You’ve also had some great mileage during the first 6 months of this horrible year. Can we press “forward” and move on to 2021?
kookyrunner says
I wish I had traveled more in the beginning of the year, but hopefully travel can resume in 2021.
