Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Share your 2021 goals! You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
My apologies for not doing a post last week. I worked way later than expected on Monday and didn’t have time to do my post. But I’m back today to share my goals for 2021.
Can you believe that 2020 is almost over? I still can’t believe everything that happened this year. I don’t envy the teachers that will have to teach kids about 2020 in history classes. Before discussing my goals for next year, here’s a look at my 2020 goals.
Run a minimum of 50 miles a month
Status: Achieved
Happy to report that I’m on track for this goal. I ran 50 or more miles every month this year, even hitting 100 miles in August.
Burn 600 calories in an OTF class
Status: Did Not Achieve
After speaking to the head coach at my studio about this in March I decided to not pursue this goal. He mentioned that there are so many factors that go into the calorie burn for a class that I shouldn’t focus on the number but more about how I feel during class, increasing my weight selection on the floor, running faster in class, etc.
Complete 300 Peloton rides
Status: Achieved
I’m currently at 377 rides so I actually surpassed my goal of 300 rides. I’m pretty sure bring forced to workout at home for months helped this goal!
Add 3 more states to my 25 State Challenge
Status: Did Not Achieve
Hahahahaha – this makes me laugh. I was so ambitious at the end of 2019. This goal didn’t happen for obvious reasons.
Complete a challenge every month
Status: Achieved
I was able to complete Peloton challenges every month.
Here are my 2021 goals!
Complete 500 Peloton rides
This year I re-discovered my joy of riding. I used to teach spinning a few years ago but kind of fell out of love with it over the past few years as distance runner and strength training took over. I finally feel like I enjoy cycling again so I’m looking forward to tackling this goal next year.
Take an actual vacation
Although I also plan on hopefully doing a racecation, I would also like to take an actual vacation if possible. I haven’t gone on a non-running vacation in a few years and after staying home all of this year, I welcome the opportunity to go to an island and enjoy unlimited food and drinks 🙂
Focus more on mindful/healthier eating
I feel like I started the year off strong in terms of my nutrition due to the OTF transformation challenge but the longer I stayed at home, the more I fell back into lazy eating habits. I actually haven’t really gained much weight this year – maybe 3-5 pounds overall – but I’m just not happy with my current eating habits and I know I can do better. I’m planning on tackling this by taking baby steps next – getting into a simple meal planning routine, trying to incorporate more vegetables into every meal, more protein packed smoothies, etc. I know what to do, I just have to do it.
I’m sure I may think of more goals to add as the year goes one, but for now I think this is a good start. To be honest, my ultimate goal for 2021 is to try to get back to some sense of normalcy, whatever that means.
Tell me: What are your goals for 2021?

Taking an actual vacation that has nothing to do with running or exercise sounds like a goal you deserve, Kim! I really hope you get to do that in 2021.
What kind of island do you have in mind? Something in the Caribbean? Or Hawaii?
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Catrina! I am hoping to go someplace warm and tropical – fingers crossed 🙂 I’d love to go to Hawaii – that’s been on my bucket list for years.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I am so impressed you already have goals for 2021, and I like your goals! I’ve actually pretty much maintained my weight, although it’s often at the higher end of my range, which I don’t like so much but you have to love yourself where you are & most days I do.
I’m not sure the last time I took a vacation that wasn’t a racecation. Probably my nephew’s Bar Mitzvah. He was a freshman in college this year, LOL!
May 2021 bring you all good things, Kim.
kookyrunner says
I had a hard time thinking of any goals for 2021 because my main goal for this year was just to stay safe. I hope 2021 is a great year for you Judy!
Kimberly Hatting says
I agree with Judy, way to go on getting those goals in place #fistbump When I read about racing in other states, your “ha ha ha ha” made me laugh (and maybe snort a little LOL). We’ve talked about IMT Des Moines…maybe 2021 can be the year we finally make it a reality (??)
kookyrunner says
Yeah I definitely had a nice big belly laugh when I saw that goal – I was so optimistic about travel at the end of 2019 LOL. This may end up being the year for IMT Des Moines, hopefully! (fingers crossed)

I am having a hard time coming up with goals for the year. I agree w what you OTF teacher said about calorie burn. I also think the calorie burn on the machines is just an average based on the info you put in. You know when you are giving your workout your all. I love your varied fitness routine. I hope you get that vacation soon! Of course, I recommend Aruba 🙂
kookyrunner says
Aruba is now on my list just based on your photos! It looks so beautiful and peaceful there.
Jessie says
Oh no, I must have been looking at next week’s topic, ha! Oh well…I’m one week ahead.
You did pretty darn well on your 2020 goals considering! I definitely have fallen into bad eating habits…just laziness really. I have saved a lot of money on lunches, but don’t get as many good salads at home, a lot more PB & J sandwiches sometimes 🙂
kookyrunner says
You’re an overachiever! It’s the same here with my meals – saving money is great but then I end up pressed for time and I just grab and go. Sometimes those options are not the best!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Great goals and I hope that you achieve them all and 2021 is a good year for you.
My goals are not as elaborate as last week. But I think realistic.
It would be fun to meet up at a race again.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I kind of had a hard time coming up with goals for next year so that’s why I just stopped at those 3. Who knows what next year will actually look like.
Darlene S Cardillo says
** last year not week – pandemic brain.
kookyrunner says
LoL don’t worry – I totally understand!
Coco says
You did great on your goals considering 2020! I am kind of afraid to set any goals for 2021.
kookyrunner says
I felt the same way about setting goals for 2021 so I totally get it!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m super impressed that you have already given some thought to your 2021 goals – and you have some good ones! I usually take the week between Christmas and New Year’s to think about my goals, but honestly, after 2020 I’m with Coco I’m kinda afraid to set any LOL!
I hope you get everything you go after in 2021 and wish you an amazing year to come!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I was a little apprehensive about setting goals for 2021 because this year was such a dumpster fire.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I am right there with you on needing to up my nutrition game next year. And a real vacation sounds pretty sweet as well.
kookyrunner says
I yearn for a real vacation!
Zenaida Arroyo says
You also have some great goals! I think a vacation/traveling is on everyone’s list. 🙂
kookyrunner says
Everyone deserves a nice vacation after dealing with the stress of this year.
