Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: How do fit in fitness over the holidays? You can write about this or any running related topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
It’s that time of the year again! Between Halloween races, Turkey Trots and Jingle Bell runs, it’s the perfect time to get in the spirit and dress up for races. I absolutely love dressing in costumes for races (or OTF workouts) around the holidays. I’m sure it seems silly to some but it’s my way to have fun and bring a little joy and laughter to others so I totally think it’s worth. Here are some of the stores/websites I love for purchasing running costumes.
Luckily I live within walking distance to Party City so I’m in there all the time, lol. Of course this is the best place to go for costumes, but I also love to browse there for costume inspiration too. Other than the costumes, I love that the store always has an abundance of different accessories to help elevate any costume.
I pretty much buy something from Amazon once a week so I’m always on the website growing something. I tend to use Amazon when I need something specific for a particular costume since you can literally find anything on their website.
I really love this website! While they don’t have actual costumes, they do have everything you need to build a great holidays themed running outfit – shirts, shorts, socks, leggings, headbands, etc. I feel like this is a great place to shop especially if you’re looking for group costumes – all of the people in your running group can buy the same shirt, etc.
Tell me: Do you dress up for holiday races? If so, where do you shop?

Well, dear #KimTwin, you would be an expert on this topic! That turkey costume totally makes me smile every time I see it 😉 While I don’t ((usually)) go all out in a costume, per se, I do love OD’ing on the accessories. Last year, I didn’t do the Des Moines Turkey Trot in person, but I registered for the virtual event just to get the gear kit (pom-pom hat, neck gaiter, etc.)…now I’m set for all future turkey trots!

The turkey costume is hot and not so great to workout in, but it makes me laugh too 🙂

I love to dress up. Unfortunately our pumpkin race went virtual for the second year in a row and I work from home. No one at thus job dresses up anyway. Our friends who had a party each year moved to fla.
Let’s say I have a lot of costumes. I lent one to a friend.
I buy them at Walmart after Halloween when things are 75% off.
Can’t wait to see what you wear this year.

Last year I wore an ugly Christmas sweater on a team call. Surprisingly it went over well. I think people were just ready for a laugh, lol.
I also buy costume accessories after the holiday is over – I’m all about saving money when I can!

I also love a good holiday costume! You always have great ones. Time to pull out the Halloween gear this weekend. I know I have some somewhere 🙂
kookyrunner says
I pulled out my Halloween gear last week to see what I had – I forgot that I had some pretty funny shirts, lol.

You have so many great holiday outfits, Kim! I still can’t believe you did that OTF workout in the turkey outfit, haha!
At a race that I have next week, the participants are asked to dress in neon colours with flashing lights and things for a night run. That has me scrambling for something suitable to wear. If I lived closer to you I would just pass by your house, I’m sure you’d have something right for the occasion! 🙂

It was quite the experience working out in that costume – I won’t do it again this year, lol. I have another turkey costumes that is much better to workout in.
You’re right – I have a few pieces of neon colored clothes, lol.

I am a party pooper but I love that you dress up! Costumes do make me smile — just like decorations (which I don’t do either). So thank you!
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that costumes make you smile! 🙂

I’m going to be party pooper and say that I don’t really dress up! I’ve done a few Turkey Trots but the extent of my dressing up tends to be fun socks lol. I don’t like to be uncomfortable while I run and I feel like some adult costumes just don’t fit right so I tend to be simple. I love all your outfits and how to dress up for each theme!
kookyrunner says
You are not a party pooper – fun socks still count!

I love that you have so much access to fun running gear! We don’t have that here so you have to improvise quite a bit – at least we have a few party stores that we can use for fun accessories! I’m all for dressing up – it really does help to lift that holiday spirit!
kookyrunner says
I think the accessories sometimes are more important than the costume itself!

Omg- I didn’t know about Gone For a Run but it is AWESOME!!! I love holidays, and decorations and themed apparel just make everything more fun. I may have to have a shopping spree!
kookyrunner says
It’s a really cool website!

Thanks for the tips and inspiration to get my Thanksgiving outfit ready! Is that you in the turkey costume? I love it!
kookyrunner says
Yup, that’s me in the Thanksgiving costume, lol 🙂
