Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Fitness Planners. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
I’m a huge fan of setting goals, especially fitness goals, so I always use a planner to keep track of my workouts. It also helps me stay organized, especially knowing which days during the week I have Orangetheory Fitness classes. Throughout the years I have used a few different types of planners which I will share below. FYI – I’m still very much a paper and pen type of gal so these are all traditional planners – nothing digital here!
I used this planner a few years ago when I was marathon training and it was super helpful! I liked that I had enough space to write out my workouts for the day and usually after all of my runs I would write a few notes about how the run felt, what went well, what didn’t go well, etc. Also there were great motivational quotes and tips sprinkled in throughout the planner which was super helpful – especially on those days when I had a not-so-great workout.
I used this planner for 2 years in a row and it was really helpful when I started ramping up my running and signing up for a bunch of races. The designated grids in the planner were awesome for recording workout information as well as space to process and plan my upcoming workouts. Also this planner is undated so you can start it at anytime during the year – no need to wait until January!
Blue Sky Planner
This year I used a “regular” planner but it worked out great! It had ample space for me to write out all of my OTF and Peloton classes daily, and it also had monthly layouts for me to write down important events, etc. I liked it so much that I ordered the same one for 2023, just with a different cover.
Tell me: Do you track your workouts or use planners?

What a lovely idea! I have a journal where I write down my daily happenings and it includes my workouts. But it’s not very detailed and I don’t use it to plan ahead. Thanks for this idea, Kim!

Love to hear that you also use a traditional journal! I feel like everyone uses digital apps for everything these days.

My favorite fitness log was the free one I used to receive each year after paying for my Runner’s World subscription. When I stopped my subscription I tried to find a similar log on Amazon, but had to settle for one that I don’t like quite as well. I use it to jot down all of my workouts and notes to later transfer to my Weekly RunDown.

Oh wow that’s awesome that Runner’s World used to offer a free fitness log – I didn’t know that!

I use a pen & paper planner as well. I like to jot down the daily fitness happenings (for blogging notes and just general planning). Even though I seldom ever look back at previous years, I just cannot throw out the “old” planners from years past, LOL.

All Kims use pen and paper planners 🙂 i also keep all my old fitness journals.

I had that same “Believe” training journal last year! This year I also switched to a regular planner which has been working out well. I’m also a pen and paper girl!
kookyrunner says
woo-hoo for pen and paper journals! I love that I can write as little or as much as I want. I really liked the Believe journals but glad I switched to a regular journal.

I think I used one of these for a training cycle before! I’ve used one when I first started CrossFit too. These are a great idea and I know I SHOULD probably do these but I tend to fall off. I have a note on my phone of my lifting PRs and I used that for percentages for my workouts. Journals are great because they also remind you of how you were FEELING and what was going on in your life that had an effect on your training. I should do it but I just fall off!

Love that you keep your PRs in your phone. I actually stopped tracking my PRs but I should really start doing that again.

I definitely do not have time for a paper planner.
Luckily I do blog and it keeps me on track.
I also use my outlook calendar on my iphone, computer and watch for ll my appts.
kookyrunner says
The blog is a great way to keep track of everything too.

I also love a pen and paper planner. I use the life planner from erin condren and plan all of my workouts and blog posts and regular appts all in one place.
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard great things about the Erin Condren planners.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I do not have a planner at all but like the idea. Writing blog posts is the way I document my workouts. However, these past two “non successful” 50k training sessions I documented them on Instagram Stories.

My most comprehensive tracking tool is Garmin – I import EVERYTHING into there, but I also keep a log of my workouts in my regular paper planner. I should take more time to record how I felt, what went well, what went not so well, etc. – did you find that you look back at these notes and noticed some kinda pattern?
