While I love a lot of the “bigger” brands for running items – Under Armour, Nike, Old Navy, Brooks – for this blog post I wanted to feature holiday gifts for runners that are available from small businesses. It’s always important to support your local/small businesses, but it’s even more important this year!
Run Ink
This company provides custom maps for your races. It’s a really nice way to commemorate a race (including virtual ones) – a first marathon, a PR, etc. You can personalize the map by including your name, bib number, date, year and finish time. I have Run Ink custom maps for all of my marathons and I love them! The website also sells holiday ornaments, mugs, posters and stickers.

Momentum Jewelry
This is one of my favorite companies if you’re looking for inspirational messages while out on a run, or while doing a workout. Their motivate wraps are perfect for providing an extra push to run harder or finish strong.
Koala Clip
If you don’t want to run with a running belt or with your phone in your hand, the koala clip is the perfect option. You can clip it to the back of your sports bra and the cover keeps your phone protected from sweat. I haven’t personally tried out this item yet but I know many runners that have and all the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.
York Sign Shop
I first found out about York Sign Shop at a race expo when I purchased a “World’s Okayest Runner” shirt from their booth (I thought the shirt was so funny). They sell numerous items including shirts, holiday ornaments, trophy shelves and bib/medal holders.
I just ordered this for a holiday ornament exchange. I hope the recipient likes it!

Great ideas! I have 2 of those Run Ink maps (from my marathons) and I love them!
They are so cool! Right now I just have them taped to my wall but eventually I want to get frames for each of them.
Nice collection, Kim! Those maps are especially intriguing for me! Since I have the indoor bike at my disposal now, I want to fix up the little workout space where it (and the elliptical) are perched. The walls need some sprucing-up, and some colorful artwork would be perfect!

I love that you focused on small businesses! They may be small, but they have great ideas. I ordered a Koala Clip and it should arrive in Switzerland this week. I’m so excited to try it out when I get home again.

I also like Her Tribe Athletics for fleece lined ponytail hats. She’s not local, but she’s a small business. I only had one, and I finally ordered a couple more for this year!

I still have not tried the Koala clip but have been tempted. How would you use it in the winter time? Those race maps do look like great gift ideas. Now we just need more races to celebrate!
