Happy Tuesday! As runners, we don’t want to carry a lot of items with us on our run, but it’s definitely important to always run with a few key items. Some items I carry for safety, others for enjoyment and some for convenience.
This week’s Tuesday Topic: What items do you bring with you on your run? You can write about this topic, or feel free to post any running related blog post. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
For safety reasons, I always carry my cellphone with me. I always tell someone where I’m running and what my route will be (if running solo), but I always feel more confident bringing my phone along with me on my run. I also always run with my prescription sunglasses/glasses. I don’t wear contacts and since I like to be able to see clearly on my runs, this is non-negotiable, lol. Oh, and when I drive to a park to start my run, I obviously have to carry my car key with me as well.
For enjoyment I always carry my wireless headphones and iPod so that I can enjoy my music. I give a lot of credit to runners that don’t need music but I am not one of those people. I need the music to keep me motivated and to give me energy during a run. Also my lips are constantly dry during a run so I always bring chapstick. Does anyone else have this problem?
And what do I carry it everything in? I always run with my Spibelt. I love it because it tiny but can stretch easily to fit many items, including my phone. It also doesn’t bounce when I run. It’s the only running belt I found that stays in place.
Tell me: What items do you bring with you on your run?

I, of course, put my own spin on the topic. The irony is not lost on me either: I wonβt need fuel on a run for a long time.
Otherwise itβs cell phone, water, sunglasses, car keys. They go in my pockets. Thankfully I do wear contacts because I HATE wearing glasses to run (mine are strong & heavy).
kookyrunner says
Looks like we have a lot of the same items! I wish that I could wear contacts but I always get so freaked out touching my eye, lol.
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, Kim π I had to give a mention to dry lips on MY post as well LOL If there wasn’t an age gap (and geographical distance as well as other factors), I’d have to question if we were separated at birth π
kookyrunner says
LMAO my thoughts exactly! Who knows, maybe we were related in a different life?
Darlene says
I love my spi belt. I wore a different brand for my last half and it fell down the whole race.
Otherwise, I always carry my phone, my apple watch.
For races, I do wear my belt because I attach my bib to it.
I wear a skirt or capris/tights with pockets which allows me to carry my car key, gels, tissues, etc.
kookyrunner says
That happened to me a few years ago too. It’s such an uncomfortable feeling when your belt won’t stay put!
San says
I am super intrigued by that running belt… I am in the market for a new one. Is it easy to adjust? My current belt has been so worn out that I keep tightening it.
kookyrunner says
Yes! It’s super easy to adjust and it really does stay in place.
Chaitali says
These are most of the things I carry too (minus the chap stick). I have a flipbelt I use but I’ve really been trying to transition to leggings with pockets so I don’t use the belt too much any more. Depending on the weather and how long the run is, I might add my inhaler and/or clif shot blocks. And I carry a hand held water bottle.
kookyrunner says
I have a pair of shorts with pockets and I love it! It’s nice if you can just put everything in your pockets π
Zenaida Arroyo says
I guess I should have mentioned in my post that I carry my phone too. I use it for pictures and to listen to music with my Apple Airpods. π Also, of course, in case of an emergency. I remember one time I was running by the lakefront and suddenly got really cold. I was still about 2-3 miles from my car. I used my phone to get an Uber. Problem solved.
kookyrunner says
That’s a great example about why I run with my phone, and thank goodness for Uber!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Since I am usually chatting away with my crew, no headphones needed! I do love the SPI belt. Stays put and holds all of my gear. Always have my phone for those run selfies! Will be linking up tomorrow
kookyrunner says
I need to get better about taking photos will out on the run lol
Laurie says
I have to admit, I don’t usually carry anything with me for a short run. A friend got me a Spibelt for Christmas last year and I LOVE it for carrying stuff on a long run. Now I wonder how I ever did longer runs without it.
kookyrunner says
Glad you are loving the spibelt!
Cari says
Forgot my chapstick Sunday and ooph, the wind. Painful
Transition lenses were my favorite not directly running related running tool I’ve bought myself. So helpful to have one less thing to carry or decide which to wear & be caught out when I needed the other
kookyrunner says
Right?! It’s amazing how dry our lips get while out on the run.
The Accidental Marathoner says
I run with my Garmin watch and a handheld water bottle for every run. I haven’t historically run with music, but I am thinking of giving it a whirl as I think it might help improve my speed. Since I have been running with my neighbor I haven’t been carrying my phone (he always has his since that’s how he tracks his runs), but if I run solo I have mine on me. I’ve been wearing a SPIBelt since I started running, so I always have that on, no matter how little or how much I am carrying.
kookyrunner says
You reminded me that I forgot to add Garmin watch to my list, lol.
Liz Dexter says
Phone, drink bottle, hanky, kitchen roll, gels, front door keys. Think that’s it!
kookyrunner says
Short and sweet list – I love it!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Yep – the exact same list, including the chapstick…my lips are a mess without it. And you know I love SPIbelt – I’ve had one since I started running. I love that I can put it on and forget about it!
kookyrunner says
Me too! I actually need to purchase another one as I’ve had mine for a number of years and it looks like it, lol
Sandra D Laflamme says
I always bring my phone and a gu and that’s usually about it. Chapstick is a good idea. I should throw some in my pack!
kookyrunner says
I usually bring a gel too if I’m running over 7 miles.
Virjinia @ With Purpose and Kindness says
Flip belt, phone, and Aftershokz for me! If I’m running from home, I’ll slip the key in my bra. If I have my car keys, I’ll carry them in my Flip belt. Pretty simple runner!
kookyrunner says
I wish I could slip my car key in my bra but it’s too big π
Kat says
Cell phone, keys, headphones are my key things to carry with me. But sometimes, I’m taking chewing gums with me. I don’t know why but I tend to perform better when I have chewing gum…
kookyrunner says
Sometimes i use a brand called RunGum. I really like it because it has caffeine.
Chris Tiley says
I always track my run on my Garmin but carry my phone for music and for emergencies.
kookyrunner says
I use my Garmin too (forgot to put that on my list).
Smitha says
Water. I’d prefer to carry a phone, but not end of the world if I don’t
kookyrunner says
I need to get better about running with water. Especially now that it’s going to start getting warmer.
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
I will have to check out the spi belt! I usually wear my fuel belt, even for short runs so I can carry my cell phone. I keep kleenex and chapstick in it as well. Sometimes I listen to music on my runs, but not always.
kookyrunner says
Kleenex is something I need to remember to bring with me. Way too often I do the “shirt wipe” LOL
Marc Pelerin says
I don’t need a whole lot! Usually, just sunglasses and a watch…
For really long runs or where I needed some extra oomph, I use a ipod shuffle and some headphones
kookyrunner says
Yup, I always need my sunglasses!
Esther says
When I was more active in running, I would take my phone, sometimes a water bottle, a source of fuel for long runs, sunglasses and my headphones.
I also love my Spi belt, and I still use it when I travel!
kookyrunner says
I also use my Spibelt when I travel too!
Black Knight says
Interesting post. I only run with my Garmin and a brick of Enervitene (just in case I have a total loss of strength).
kookyrunner says
I also run with my Garmin – forgot to add it to my list!
