Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: What’s on your Fall Bucket List? You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Today is the official first day of Fall! Can you tell that I’m excited?! This is my absolute FAVORITE time of the year for so many reasons – pumpkin flavored everything, cooler weather, leaves changing colors, Thanksgiving and Fall running. Although there won’t be any in person races this year, I still wanted to put together a small bucket list.
Run a virtual half marathon
I cannot believe that I haven’t traveled for any races this year AND I haven’t run a half marathon. These facts are just crazy to me and sometimes it’s hard to wrap my head around it. When the pandemic first started, I was totally against the idea of running a virtual half marathon. As the months went on, I didn’t feel right not running a half marathon this year so that’s why I decided to run one next month. Am I trained for a half marathon? Absolutely not, so it will probably get a little rough during the last few miles of the race but I’m up for the challenge.
Go Apple Picking
I haven’t gone apple picking in a few years and I feel like it would be great socially distance, family fun event. Plus I’ll get to come back with a ton of apples (one of my favorite fruits) and I can pick up some delicious apple cider and apple cider donuts while there. Just thinking about the donuts brings me joy, lol.
Go Hiking
This is another activity I haven’t done for a while but would love to do. I think getting outside is so important for mental health, especially when the weather is picture perfect. Sometimes if I don’t feel like running, going for a nice long hike would be a welcomed change!
Tell me: What’s on your Fall Bucket List?

Your fall bucket list looks similar to mine! I’m hoping to hit that segment of the Ice Age Trail (sans biting flies) that I ran this summer to see the fall colors.
kookyrunner says
That sounds very cool Wendy!
Catrina says
Yes, Kim! Go hiking! You get all the benefits of being outdoors, plus the exercise and companionship. And we get the benefit of some landscape photos! 😉
I love that you’re doing a virtual half in October. Yes, it will be rough but you like a challenge, don’t you?
kookyrunner says
Haha so true – I like a challenge, even if my body is going to be angry at me.
Kimberly Hatting says
My bucket list will be very hit/miss this year. I’ve done a few virtual 13.1’s, but it’s doubtful there will be ANY live ones in 2020 for me. That’s a tough pill to swallow! Apple-picking does sound fun! It’s been several years since I’ve done that 😉
kookyrunner says
too bad we cant go apple picking virtually – now that would be cool!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, I bet we could!!!!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Except for the half (LOL!, I haven’t run one either, not even double digits) it sounds like a great list, Kim.
We’ve been doing short hikes all summer. Fall is a great time to hike!
I have no bucket list. Right now it’s just relax a little! Or maybe it’s finally getting the class I’ve been working on filmed & uploaded! Something seems to always get in the way of me filming lately.
kookyrunner says
I think I’ve done 1 double digit run this year, lol. Oh this half marathon is going to be fun – NOT!
Deborah Brooks says
I plan on a virtual 10K on Thanksgiving. I will be sad to miss my annual tradition of a turkey trot. I hope to get back to a solid base with no running injuries again
kookyrunner says
I’m so going to miss the annual Turkey Trot 🙁 i may just wear my turkey costume and run around town that morning, lol.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Hiking is a great goal for fall, especially since it’s really not an option in winter. In general I want to be outside as much as I can this fall since I will most definitely be house bound this winter. I have a pretty heavy racing schedule for October, and two of my races are scheduled to be live, so it’s possible that I’ll be getting in some real racing – not counting on it, just saying there’s a chance.
kookyrunner says
I’m not a huge outdoor person but I do think that I want to get outside more this Fall before it gets way too cold to do so in the Winter.
I hope that you get to do an in-person race!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Just focus on finishing even if you walk it.
That’s the way I feel with all my runs this year.
I have a virtual one next weekend. I’m excited because I don’t care about the time.
The pandemic has been good in that way.
kookyrunner says
I’ll definitely need to do run/walk intervals for my virtual half!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Apple picking and hiking are some of my favorite fall activities! I hope you get to do both!
I am also not ready for my October half marathon – when is your race? Maybe we can will each other on virtually 🙂
kookyrunner says
I can complete the virtual half anytime in October so I’ll probably wait until the last Saturday in October to run it lol
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Having grown up on a farm, any of the “going picking” activities sounds like a chore I hated as a child so I’ve never done them as an adult. LOL Having said that, stopping by and shopping for apple pies, cider, pumpkins, mums, etc. sounds delightful! I’m sad that Thanksgiving probably won’t be able to be the huge extended family event we usually host.
As of now, my favorite Run with Santa 5K is still a live event. My fingers are crossed that doesn’t change and it will be my one and only live race of 2020, even if I have to run/walk it.
kookyrunner says
I can’t wait to have apple cider donuts – those are my favorite!
Coco says
It’s really hard to think of something, but hiking is a great idea! Is OTF Hell Week on your bucket list?
kookyrunner says
Totally forgot about OTF Hell Week! Yup, that’s on my bucket list and I heard it’s going to be a little different this year so I’m looking forward to seeing the changes.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Kudos for the half marathon. Even though I was planning to run a few this year for my goal, I have no desire to do a virtual one. But you never know.
I used to go apple picking with my nephew and my mom. It was nice to get away and spend the day doing something fun. My nephew is 20 now so it isn’t something he wants to do with us anymore. :-).
kookyrunner says
Awwe I’m sure your nephew would still want to go again – just ask him! 🙂
