Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Show us your year in bling! You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
When I first saw the topic for this week I laughed and instantly thought, do I even have any bling to share? I didn’t run an official race this year and didn’t have any racecations, but I do have some bling to share from this year. As a disclaimer, I’m also including a shirt and a travel cup as part of my bling this year, lol.
Global 24 Hour Relay Virtual Race
This event on Global Running Day was fun! I was able to “run” with people from all over the country. Basically a virtual baton was passed every 30 minutes. After I ran my leg of the race in the morning, I texted the next person in line and then they ran. It was a unique way to celebrate one of the most important days of the year for runners.
Hearts Around Connecticut Virtual Challenge
This was a really cool challenge! I ran the double border challenge (1,000K) with my mom and two other running friends. We had a few months to complete the challenge and we actually ended up completing it after only 2 months. I enjoyed this challenge because it was an ongoing event vs. a virtual race.
This was a great virtual race – this year the 10K is really my sweet spot. The main reason I signed up for this virtual race is because all of the race entry money went to various charities in the Hartford area. One day I’m actually run this race live!
This medal was definitely earned. It was my only half marathon of the year and I ran it with very little training. By mile 10 I was ready to throw in the towel but I kept pushing forward until my watch hit 13.1 miles. Everything hurt and my legs were killing me for days after, but I guess that is what happens when you don’t do any long runs for months and months – oops.
Orangetheory Fitness Dri Tri
This was such a fun event! You start off with a 2,000 meter row followed by 300 bodyweight exercises and then a 5K run. I did it last year but this year it was held outside which made it 10x better AND I got a PR! 🙂 This travel mug is huge and I’ve used it to drink water and tea throughout the day (it’s a little too large for my morning coffee).
Orangetheory Fitness Hell Week
I went to 8 OTF classes in a row to get this shirt so I feel like it deserves to be in my year in bling post!
Tell me: Do you have a favorite medal from this year? Share your year in bling! Do you have a favorite local/small business?

What a strange year to recap, right? When I sat down to write this post, I had the same feelings as you–what do I share? Here’s to hoping we can get back to recapping actual races in 2021.
And you did get some nice bling in spite of it all!
kookyrunner says
Yes! Let’s hope we have way more to share in 2021 🙂

I’m amazed at how many medals and trophies you managed to collect in the year of cancelled races. I love the Global Running Day relay race you had in June. It’s the perfect virtual race and it sounds like it was a lot of fun, too.
And your Orangetheory Fitness Dri Tri mug is well deserved. Congrats again on your PR!

Thanks! I was surprised to when I sat down to write this post. I’m glad I had a few medals to share from 2020.

You still had a nice haul of hardware! I tried to focus more on the stories behind tmy”races” and the memories made as well as lessons learned because, well, it was a significant year if nothing else. Hopefully this past year is one of those One-And-Done things LOL
kookyrunner says
That’s a good point. With this year being so crazy, it’s definitely nice to focus on the stories behind each race.

You had some great bling from this year! I only had a couple of medals, but I do like the RBG medal a lot. I also love my mug from my trail runs (which I use for the coffee date).
kookyrunner says
The RBG medal was so nice – I wish I had done that virtual race!
Darlene S Cardillo says
You still got a lot of bling even though it was 2020.
I did too but somehow, some of those medals don’t feel the same. Virtuals are just runs with bling for me.
Hopefully, we will have more in-person races next year…not many scheduled here yet. And in 2022 — real races!!
kookyrunner says
I agree – I don’t really want to do anymore virtual races (I have one more to do this month), but I appreciate that many of them gave out medals this year.
Jessie says
Wow- you acquired quite a bit of fun stuff! I can only imagine how much bling you get in a regular race year! The Global Running relay is awesome.
Thanks for hosting the link-up!
kookyrunner says
i really hope to have a buttload of bling to share next year!

You had a lot of medals for a year of cancelled races! It was a good thing so many did virtual events-it definitely helped keep me motivated. While I miss regular racing and am SO THANKFUL I had the opportunity to get one in before the end of the year, without virtuals I think I would have gone crazy!
kookyrunner says
Virtual races and challenges definitely kept me somewhat motivated this year but I’m ready to go back to real races!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Congrats on all your earned bling! Love the Hartford medal. I think I earned 2 physical medals this year from virtual races, lol!
kookyrunner says
I love the Hartford medal too! I hope to run the race in person next year.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You collected some nice bling this year! I love that Hartford medal – that is one race I’m so hoping to run that race at some point.
kookyrunner says
Same here! I hope to run Hartford in 2021.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
The OTF shirt is the best. I really enjoyed running the two major races where I live, even virtually.
kookyrunner says
I love the OTF shirt too!
Deborah Brooks says
what a strange year of bling and races! I cannot believe I only ran one real race in February. I will treasure that RnR medal for sure. I kind of feel like I didn’t earn the others in a way. I also treasure all of the Peloton badges earned this year!
kookyrunner says
I still can’t believe that I didn’t run any official races this year. Hoping that won’t be the case next year!
Zenaida Arroyo says
It’s been fun to see everyone’s bling. No matter what we made the best of it this year.
kookyrunner says
I agree!
