Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: It’s National Food Day! What are some of your favorite “healthy” foods? Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
Today is National Food Day, a day that aims to help people eat whole foods (healthy foods). I don’t really care for the term “healthy foods” because everyone has their own definition of healthy, but these are some of my favorite “healthy” foods.
Salads
I eat a salad once a day and never get sick of it because they are SO many variations. You can mix up the type of lettuce, veggies, protein and vegetables you use which is why I never get bored. I would say that 95% of the time I buy fresh lettuce and chop it up myself, but sometimes if I am pressed for time, I will buy a salad kit. I recently purchased the Harvest Apple Salad kit from Trader Joe’s and cooked up grilled chicken to add to it – super quick and easy to make and super delicious!
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast food, especially in the Winter. I make my own apple cinnamon oatmeal which consists of oats, almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, chopped apples and walnuts. It’s a healthier version of the Quaker apples and cinnamon packaged oatmeal.
Watermelon and Apples
I pretty much love all fruit, but apples and watermelon are my two favorites. It’s great by itself but have you ever tried watermelon with Tajin? So good! My favorite apples are granny smith apples and I love to have those with peanut butter. It’s a really great snack and so tasty.
Since we’re discussing food, I wanted to mention an organization I have been volunteering with for the past few months. Food Rescue is dedicated to eliminating hunger and food waste (keeping food out of landfills and reducing greenhouse gasses). They engage volunteers and food donors through our web-based app to directly transfer nutritious excess food to social service agencies serving the food insecure. It’s an easy way to make a difference in a short amount of time. Most of the rescues I do only take 30 minutes and the receiving agencies are SO appreciate of receiving the excess food. It’s a win-win situation because the restaurant gets to donate excess food to those in need. If you’re interested in volunteering with them, you can find a list of their locations here.

I loved that your involved in food rescue! It’s a win-win: there’s less waste and it’s being used in a wise way.
In Europe, we have an app called “Too Good To Go”. Hundreds of food stores and restaurants offer food that is about to pass its sell-by-date.
It’s cheap, delicious and prevents food waste.
I need to try watermelon with Tajin!

I’ve heard of that “Too Good to Go” app but haven’t used it yet. I will definitely check it out! Another great way to help lessen food waste.

I love apple pie and apple crisp and watermelon in the summer.

Love to see another oatmeal lover, lol. For someone reason oatmeal is so polarizing – either people really love it or really hate it.
Warm apple pie crisp is so good!

I love apples year-long too. I’m not a huge grape fan but everyone else in my family is so we always have them in the refrigerator.

Watermelon with tajin is yummy! Actually, pretty much any fruit with tajin is good. It is great that you eat a salad every day. There are many options. Costco also has good salad kits.

I want to try other fruits with tajin – I have a feeling it’s great with strawberries!
