Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Do you like or dislike Halloween? Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
I’m going off topic today since yesterday was National Sports Day!
I love sports and sports have been a part of my life since I was a kid. I always cheer on the New York teams in professional sports (baseball, football, basketball, etc). I did gymnastics for many years but stopped once I started high school. In high school I did one season of track and field my freshmen year (I was horrible, lol). From sophomore to senior year I did cheerleading (football and basketball) – and yes, cheerleading is a sport, especially when you’re tumbling and doing stunts (I still have issues with my right knee from a cheerleading injury). After high school I didn’t participate in any sports, but went to the gym occasionally. I didn’t really get back into a sport until I too up running in my early 30s.
I like to play sports, but I equally enjoy watching sports as well. In college I had season tickets for football so that I could attend all the home games. Granted part of the appeal was tailgating, but I did actually enjoy watching the games. I watch more professional teams (NFL, NBA, MLB) vs college teams. I also have no problem admitting that I lose my mind every 4 years when the Olympics are on. I prefer the Summer Olympics vs Winter Olympics (because there are more sports) and I was become an expert for 2 weeks in every sport, lol. You can even catch me watching curling. It’s just something about the best athletes in the world competing against each other – it’s so inspiring and just so cool!
Tell Me: What is your favorite sport to watch or play?

Topic for next week – October 24th is National Food Day. Tell us about your favorite food.

I love watching sports, too!
For the first time in my life, I watched a rugby game on Sunday. It’s so captivating and I’m so inspired by the strength and stamina of the players. I still don’t understand the rules, though!

I have never watched rugby but now I want to based on your description! The only sport I have watched and couldn’t get into was golf – it’s just so boring to me, lol.

I also love watching sports, especially NCAA basketball & football. And let’s not forget gymnastics (the balance beam is my favorite), but gymnastics competitions aren’t as readily available to see as the basketball & football., so I don’t get to watch as much of them as I’d like, unfortunately. Of course, I’m always captivated with running events as well 🙂

I love, love, love watching gymnastics. All of the athletes are so powerful. I think my favorite events to watch are floor and bars.

I was not into sports in school. At all.
I used to be a big Mets fan. Now I just watch tennis.
I starting my first sport in my 40s. Tennis. And now running since my 50s.
I hope to continue a long time.

I don’t watch tennis a lot but always love to watch the US Open.

Hi – Just recently discovered your blog and have been enjoying it. In June I took running up again after 10+ years of not running. I am really loving it and so happy I got started again.
As for sports, I didn’t like them as a kid because I felt so clumsy and I was very timid. But running is for anyone. Buy a good pair a shoes and go for it. I turn 63 in two weeks and hope to keep this up for a long time to come.

Hi Bernie – welcome! I totally agree with you that running is for everyone and that’s why I love the sport so much.

I wish I had embraced and gotten into sports at a much younger age. It sure does wonders for self esteem and mental health. We are a big sports watching family now over here!

I 100% believe that being active in sports really helped to shape my high school experience. I met so many people I otherwise would have never met.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I never played any sports in elementary, high school, or college. I remember in college a friend would ask me to go running with her and I would say no. Then she was surprised years later when I actually began running. 🙂

I actually didn’t like running that much in high school, that’s why I only did it for one season lol
