Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week we have a fun topic for you! This week’s Tuesday Topic: Theme races – yay or nay? You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
This should come as no surprise to anyone that knows me – I absolutely LOVE themed races! To me, there’s nothing more fun than dressing up for a race. Running is hard, so we might as well have fun when we can, right? As we’re going into the holiday season, I thought I’d include some photos from some of my favorite themed races.
St. Patrick’s Day
It’s always fun to dress up for St. Patrick’s Day races, especially since the four-leaf clover is supposed to bring good luck.
Thanksgiving
Gobble Gobble! I remember reading in a magazine that Thanksgiving is the most popular day for races. I think almost every city must have a Turkey Trot race so it’s easy to participate. Also, who doesn’t appreciate a Turkey Day workout?
Christmas
Christmas is probably my favorite themed race to dress up for because there are just so many outfit ideas!
I’d love to find a Valentine’s Day or Halloween themed race eventually. I think those would be super fun too!
Also, I know that Disney race are super popular themed races as well. I’ve never done one, and I don’t think I will because Disney really isn’t my thing, but I often enjoy seeing all the photos from those races. It looks like everyone is having a blast and there are tons of character stops available for photos!
Tell me: Do you enjoy themed races?

I do enjoy themed races, but I never dress up for them! Seriously, holiday socks are usually as festive as I get.
How do you run in that turkey costume?!
kookyrunner says
LOL it’s actually not too bad running in it but something the backend can get annoying!
Kimberly Hatting says
Hello, my name is Kim, and I love themed races, too 😉 (are you surprised?) Seriously, what’s not to love? It is fun getting dressed up and celebrating not only a holiday, but also the sport we love. That turkey costume, LOL!!!
kookyrunner says
Exactly! It’s just a fun race to do something that we love to do anyway 🙂
Coco says
The best one here is the Jingle All The Way — people dress up like crazy – snowmen, reindeer, tons of elves! I don’t do costumes, but I do wear my xmas compression socks.
kookyrunner says
That sounds like so much fun! The holidays are the best time to dress up for themed races 🙂
Wendy says
I love your “Bah Run Bug” shirt and turkey costume!
kookyrunner says
Thanks!
Denise @ runheartfit says
I haven’t ever ran a themed race. I don’t like extra stuff when I run but I do like your seasonal compression socks.
kookyrunner says
I can understand that. If you dont want to wear a costume, even just running in the holidays colors are fun!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I love a good themed race too! That Turkey costume is precious. Looking forward to breaking out my Thanksgiving gear soon
kookyrunner says
Me too! The next few months are great for running. So many opportunities to dress up!
Darlene says
I do love to dress up. Usually only got started Patrick’s day and Christmas.
Love your thanksgiving costume.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene!

I don’t mind themed races – in fact I like the themed swag – but I don’t like dressing up. Believe it or not, my birthday (and my youngest son’s) is Halloween. I LOVE everything about it, EXCEPT dressing up!
kookyrunner says
Oh wow, I didn’t know your birthday was on Halloween! And so cool that you share a birthday with your son.
Debbie says
There are always some great themed races around the holidays but I’ve never done one. I did one race in costume, the Costume Party Half Marathon (I was dressed as a Dalmatian 🙂 ).
kookyrunner says
That sounds like it was a fun race!
Marc Pelerin says
You’re definitely more spirited than I am when it comes to themed races… I’ve only done a NYE race in “costume” because I thought I might be able to win.
kookyrunner says
Doing an NYE race would be a lot of fun!
Madhusree Basu says
For me…its a YAY…bit of a break from regular running wear…and the excitement of festival…I simply love it… 🙂
kookyrunner says
Same! And it’s a chance to have fun so why not?
Sandra D Laflamme says
Love your turkey outfit. I haven’t done too many themed races but would like to do more. Next weekend I am racing the CHaD HEro where everyone dresses as superheroes. It’s cool as it benefits the Children’s Hospital!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Sandra – I think the turkey outfit is my favorite!
Jenn says
YOUR TURKEY COSTUME IS EVERYTHING!!!!
A tutu is as crazy as I’ve gotten, but we have put together some cute outfits over the years. I would pass out wearing something like that turkey, though. It’s usually still really hot on Thanksgiving where I live.
kookyrunner says
LOL, thanks! I always love wearing that costume and seeing the looks on other runners faces, hahaha.
Esther says
Oh my goodness, you are adorable! You are the runner I see and admire at the themed races!
I like to get a little dressed up, but mostly wear themed headbands.
kookyrunner says
Awwe thanks Esther! I just like to make running fun when I can!
Zenaida Arroyo says
You look so cute in all of your races! I’ve done a Turkey Trot and Christmas/Santa themed race too but did not wear a costume.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I always like to dress up when I can to make it a little more fun 🙂
Cari says
There aren’t as many themed races here as I’d sometimes like. I wanted to do Halloween for Poland Spring a couple of years ago, but it was raining and wet bee tutu is a no. I did the turkey trot near my mom’s a few ago in a headband that didn’t stay on. Bought a cute shirt for last year’s, but didn’t run it as it was minus six and no.
Might do a christmas race in FLL this year
kookyrunner says
I wish I had better turkey trots near me – I hate having to drive too far on Thanksgiving for a race since there’s always so much to do that day.
