Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics. Today’s topic – Who are you rooting for in the Olympic Trials? The 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will take place at the end of the month in Atlanta, GA. I’m a HUGE fan of the Olympics, especially the Summer Olympics, so I’m excited to watch this event.
Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Honestly I’m rooting for everyone, but these are a few athletes have some inspiring stories.
Megan Cunningham
Megan’s story gave me goosebumps. Just reading about everything that she has had to overcome (20 skull fractures and a broken neck after a car accident) is truly a miracle. To not only survive the accident, but to come back to running after the extent of her injuries just blows my mind. Talk about a strong woman!

Des Linden
I just love everything about Des. She’s someone I could totally see myself hanging out with – maybe for a drink and great conversation. She’s so talented but also down to Earth which is a rare combo to find in any sport.
Lastly, I’m rooting for the awesome volunteers! I have a few friends that live in or near Atlanta and almost all of them are volunteering during the Trials. No doubt that this this will be both a fun, but stressful, event for them. I’m rooting for them to have fun, help tons of people and also meet as any athletes as possible during their volunteer time there 🙂

Two very inspiring athletes! I’ll be rooting for the Swiss triathlete Nicola Spirig. She is the 2012 Olympic and six times European champion in women’s triathlon. And a mother of 3 kids. She can also run a marathon in 2h 37mins. She is now 38 years old – I hope she can still keep up against the younger athletes.
Wow, Nicola sounds super inspiring!
I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t know who I’m rooting for yet! There are a couple of ‘older’ athletes that I’d like to get behind. I’m excited for all of the athletes.
Me too! It’s just such an exciting event and I can’t wait to watch it.
I love all things Desi, too, but don’t really have any favorites. There’s a local gal. Susie Duke, believe it or not, who has been training to qualify for the trials in the marathon. I don’t think she made it, though, but she did win a marathon in Phoenix (a month ago) with a 2:47 finish time!
Wow, that’s a super fast marathon finish time!
I gotta admit I don’t really follow elite athletes much — but I do love watching the Olympics (both Summer & Winter!).
I can imagine how stressful volunteering would be, but oh so cool too.
For some reason I’ve always loved the Olympics, even has a kid. There’s just something about seeing the best athletes in the world compete.
I didn’t know Megan’s story until I read this! How incredible. Gosh, it’s amazing what some people can achieve under the most difficult of circumstances. What an inspiration.
Right?! Everything that this woman has had to overcome is just amazing. I’m in awe of her perseverance.
I would LOVE to go to these…
Des, of course!
Des is just such a cool woman!
I am embarrassed to say that I really don’t follow this part of running at all! So I guess I am just rooting for them all to do well
I can relate as I didn’t really get into this during the last Olympics in 2016 even though I was running back then.
I love Des! I want the shirt that Brooks just made: Bourbon IS whiskey, Larry. Hilarious.
I confess that I prefer the winter Olympics (yay for Figure Skating), but I’ll probably watch a bit. All the volunteers are amazing – I know a few people who are volunteering, and they are so excited for it.
Me too! I hope that I’m able to snag one.
I don’t really know who I’m rooting for, but I do love Des!
You can’t go wrong with rooting or Des!
I’m rooting for my friends!! We have 2 runners from our running shop/program competing and I have another online friend who qualified. I can’t wait to see how their races go!!! [shoutout to Evan Gaynor, MacKenzie Chojnacky, and Stephanie Andre. Wooho!!!]
That’s so awesome!
WHOA. I did NOT know that about Megan. I must be living under a rock…
Same! I just found out about her story last week.
I’m really looking forward to the trials. I am a huge Des Linden fan and will be cheering especially hard for her! Thanks for sharing Megan’s story – I had no idea.
Me too! I really hope that both ladies do well.
Team Desi here!!!
Same!
The only sport I follow is gymnastics, so I didn’t know about these athletes—they sound so inspirational!
They really do and I can’t wait to follow along on their journeys!
