Happy Sunday! I hope that you all had a great week 🙂 All week I’ve been thinking about all of the runners affected by the cancellation of the Tokyo Marathon. My heart breaks for them 🙁 Luckily, most of the runners I know were able to get money back from the airlines and hotels and they have registered for other marathons next month so that all their training doesn’t go to waste.
This week was pretty good! I’m just over the halfway point for the OTF Transformation Challenge and I completed my 100th OTF class on Tuesday! If I keep with my current schedule of 4-5 classes a week I’m pretty sure I’ll hit 200 classes by the end of the year 🙂
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, February 17
Orangetheory Fitness – ESP (60 minutes).
I had the day off from work due to President’s Day so I was able to get in a morning OTF workout. I much prefer getting these workouts done in the morning so I’m always happy when I’m off work and can make this happen! I’m not sure why but I was really in the zone for the whole workout. I felt super energized and strong and had a really great class. Also this was an unexpected 3G class (they wanted to get in as many people as possible for the holiday) but I ended up enjoying it a lot.
This week is also the point where we do mid-way weigh-ins for the transformation challenge. I was happy to see that I was down 7 pounds and 2.5% body fat, but surprised that I lost a little muscle mass since I’ve been lifting heavier. I plan on talking to the OTF coaches about this to get some tips.
Tuesday, February 18
Orangetheory Fitness – Endurance (60 minutes).
I had a great endurance workout to celebrate my 100th OTF class! I still can’t believe I’ve done so many classes there. Next goal – hit 200 classes by the end of 2020!

Celebrating class #100!
Wednesday, February 19
3 mile run + cycle class (20 minutes).
I got in a great lunchtime workout. I can only do these types of workouts when I’m working from home since it’s the only way I can truly maximize my lunch break. I did a faster run on the treadmill which didn’t feel horrible so maybe my endurance it getting better? Also I loved the 20 min cycle class because it packs a lot of hard efforts in a short amount of time.
Thursday, February 20
Orangetheory Fitness – Power (60 minutes).
This was such a great class! I really enjoy the floor block because it had a little bit of everything and I was able to keep my heart rate up because we mixed in some rowing in-between sets.
I also had a little fun with the transformation challenge 🙂 Since we had mid-point weigh ins this week, the mini challenge is around weight loss. The team with the highest percentage of body fat loss will win the challenge. What better time to bring free donuts for the red, orange and blue teams? I purchased a bag of healthy fruit for the green team (my team). Everyone thought it was pretty funny so I was glad it went over well (I wanted it to be funny and not seem mean). Glad to know everyone has the same humor as me.
Friday, February 21
Orangetheory Fitness – ESP (60 minutes).
This was a tornado style workout which means we had short but effective blocks on the floor, treadmill and rower. We switched every 3 minutes which means it was hard to keep my heart rate up so I didn’t get as many splat points. I really tried to push the pace when possible on the treadmill since we weren’t on it for that long.
Saturday, February 22
4 mile run.
We FINALLY had a Saturday morning without rain, snow or freezing cold temperatures so I was able to run outside and it felt great!
Sunday, February 23
Orangetheory Fitness – Strength (60 minutes).
I took a later class today because I wanted to attend a workshop after class. It was a really good strength workout with a run/row combo on the floor – I really enjoyed it.
I also attended a Dri-Tri workshop after my class this afternoon. The OTF Dri-Tri is a 2,000 meter row, 300 bodyweight exercises and a 5K. I’m doing the Dri-Tri again next month and I want to beat my time from last Fall. I got a lot of tips from the workshop so it was well worth it.
Total Weekly Mileage: 16.8 miles
Summary: 7 runs*, 1 cycle class and 5 OTF workouts
*I include running from my OTF workouts and stand alone runs as well.
Grade This Week – A
Wow, I didn’t realize I ran every day this week. Is this an unofficial run streak? LOL. Overall I’m very happy with this week and my body doesn’t feel as beat down as it has in the past, even though I didn’t have a rest day this week. After having a few days to look over my mid-point weigh in results, I actually feel better about those too. I’m going to really focus on trying to get in more protein throughout the day and I am hopeful that will help me build more muscle. I’m hoping to see a gain in muscle when we do the final weigh in in mid-March.
It seems like all the stores put out Easter candy as soon as Valentine’s Day was over. Although I haven’t seen these in stores yet, I saw it online and thought it was so gross. I hate Peeps anyway but then to add this flavor? Yuck!
Speaking of Easter, can you believe that Ash Wednesday is a few days away? I still have to figure out what I’m giving up for Lent. If you celebrate, what are you giving up for Lent?
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: Who are you rooting for in the Olympic Trials?
Wow on your 100th OTF! Congrats! Woohoo on the weight loss too. I wouldn’t fret over that small drop in muscle mass— it seems close enough to be within its margin of error. LOL on the treats you brought for the other teams — that is hilarious. In my 3G we didn’t do Friday’s class as a tornado—we only did one switch. Not sure if that was easier or harder though.
I’m working on an Ash Wednesday post. I might get more strict with giving up meat again. I’m about 80% meatless these days ….
Thanks Coco! I think that you’re absolutely right about the margin of error. Friday’s class wasn’t too hard because of all the switching but the rowing block was kind of annoying – I hate doing all outs on the rower.
I thought about giving up meat for Lent (I did it a few years ago) but I’m working on increasing my protein intake so right now wouldn’t be a good time to give up meat (mainly chicken since that’s what I eat the most)
Solid week, #KimTwin!! Eewwwww, those Peeps! I detest Peeps, but that’s a total insult to Hot Tamales LOL
Thanks so much Kim! Ugh those Peeps just like so disgusting – make me gag just looking at them lol.
I am so super-intrigued by OFT (one of my friends raves about it), but I haven’t gone for the free introductory class because I am afraid I’ll like it and won’t be able to justify the price. If you go 4-5x per week, I assume you have an unlimited membership? How much is that where you are? Do they offer packages?
I know it varies by location, so I do have to go and find out what the options are where I live.
I started off with he Elite package (8x a month) which was $99 a month, but then I upgraded in November to the unlimited package which made sense because I was wanted to go 3-4x a week and currently I go 5x a week. I pay $169 for unlimited. I won’t deny that it is expensive, but it’s literally the only “splurge” I do for myself (I’m pretty frugal when it comes to everything) so that’s how I justify it!
Congrats on your 100th class! You are seriously crushing it at OTF. You are looking so fit. Not sure I could do those classes on back to back days. Ha ha with the donuts nothing like a friendly competition. thanks for linking up and have a fantastic week
Thanks so much Deborah! I’ve noticed that when I do 2 classes in a row I’m okay, 3 is a little harder and 4 is just a big no-no, lol.
I love hot tamales, but find Peeps revolting, so that’s a no. I was in Target today and they had lemon kit kat and carrot cake oreos. CAN WE PLEASE STOP WITH THE FRANKENFOOD!??!?!??!?! I’m not remotely a clean eater, but this might push me to the edge.
Congrats on 100. That’s so awesome. Think/hope I said it on Twitter when I saw your post. You are kicking ass. And I <3 your sense of humor with the treats. WELL Done
Exactly! These foods are just outright gross. There is no need for a lemon kit kat (I saw those too, lol). Just give me my basic junk food back, haha.
Lemon wouldn’t have been bad with vanilla – like those stacked wafers. But no. The only downside of Target mega expansion into the city is we have all the crazy flavors. And ditto, but i”ll keep the mint oreos
Congrats on the weight loss! You’re doing so well! As Coco mentioned, I think the tiny drop in muscle mass seems to be more of a measuring error. And yes, eating more protein will definitely help.
Love your idea with the healthy snack for the green team and the donuts for the other teams, haha!
Lent: I am thinking about doing a running streak for 40 days. You have already started your own streak!
Thanks so much Catrina! I love your idea for Lent! I don’t think my knees could handle a 40 day running streak.
All those classes – wow! You’re getting so strong, I’m in awe of you. And obviously adapting to it well, too.
Thanks so much Liz – I do feel stronger!
That’s so awesome that you have made so much progress at your check in! I wonder if the lower muscle mass is just because you have lost so much weight overall? And way to go with the unofficial running streak!
I think some of the loss of muscle was due to weight loss but I’m making an effort to get more protein in my diet moving forward.
Congrats on your 100th class! That is pretty amazing! Yuck, those Peeps look gross. I wish I had your motivation. Sometimes I just struggle to run. 🙂 I am glad your friends got their money back. That is my fear with airlines that are not Southwest. Most of them do not refund your money and that sucks. Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday? Wow!
Thanks! Yeah I was happy that my friends were able to get their money back. It seemed like the airlines were fair considering the situation.
Congrats on 100 classes! You’ve been so consistent with OTF and it’s paying off. I’d just make sure you get protein in in that 30 minute window post workout and hopefully that’ll help with the muscle breakdown.
I too have noticed all the Easter candy and those Peeps. It never ends does it?
Thanks Marcia! I really hope that I continue to love OTF as much as I do now because it’s been such a game changer for me. It’s something that I didn’t know I needed to mix up my exercise routine. I’m now working on getting in more protein throughout the day, and especially right after workout. I don’t want to lose any more muscle mass!
7 pounds is awesome! My guess is that you’re going to lose some muscle when you’re losing weight, even with the extra strength work, but what do I know? Once you stop losing it should be easier to put on muscle. You are doing awesome. And I’m exhausted everytime I read about your workouts . . .
Thanks Judy! That’s what I think too based off of what you and many others have said, but I am making an effort to get in more protein moving forward.
I’ll echo everyone here–you’re killing it this year! I think OTF has been so good for you. Can you believe you’ve done 100 classes? Congrats Kim!
Thanks so much Wendy! OTF was something that was missing that I didn’t know I needed – I’m so happy that I get to do it!
Congrats on that 100th OTF class! And I love that joke with the food on Thursday, I think that’s pretty funny 🙂
Thanks Chaitali!
Hot Tamales Peeps??? My kid is going to want those. He likes anything spicy.
So confession: since I haven’t driven in three months, I’ve missed a lot of Target and shopping finds. I had no idea Easter stuff was out. What is even happening in my world???
Great job! You are rocking OTF and your transformation challenge!
Thanks Jenn!
It’s crazy how quickly the stores put out their holiday items nowadays!
I love that you brought in donuts for the other team LOL!
I know I have said it before but you are just crushing it at OTF! Congrats on the 100th class milestone. I’m sure you’ll hit 200 before the year’s done.
And that Peeps flavor is just all kinds of wrong! :0
Thanks so much Michelle! I am looking forward to hopefully causing another 100 classes this year 🙂
Right?! I don’t like Hot Tamales and I absolutely hate Peeps so these just make me cringe, lol.
I was thinking about people who had registered for the Tokyo Marathon too. What a shame – all the planning, the airline tickets, the hotel reservations, the training…UGH! I hope they can recover as much as possible.
Congrats on your 100th OTF class and the start of your running streak!
Thanks so much Laurie! My accidental running streak ended today, lol.
Funny- I tend to do better in tornado classes and get more splat points because my HR never really goes down! I know some people find them harder. So far I find I have less points during the shorter power blocks. Everyone has their preferences I guess!
I was so bummed to hear that the Dri-Tri was the same weekend as Shamrock! I’ve been looking forward to doing one of the OTF challenges. Guess I’ll have to target the fall one instead!
That’s a good point! I notice that I can keep my heart rate up when I go from the treadmill to the rower but any other combination and my heart rate drops back down to the green lol.
They will do the dri-tri again in September so hopefully you can do it then!
Great week Kim! Congrats on your weight loss, you are rocking it.
Thanks!
Congrats on your 100th class! I’ve heard it’s more effective to focus on weight loss or building muscle, and not try to do both at once. From that perspective, it looks like you’ve done a good job maintaining muscle.
Thanks Hannah. that’s very interesting about focusing on one or the other at one time, and it totally makes sense.
Congrats on the OTF classes AND weightloss- you are rocking it!!
Thanks so much Melissa!
You are so committed!!! Congrats on your 100th OTF session. I feel the same way about the Tokyo Marathon runners but it’s for the best – makes me wonder if the Olympics will be affected too.
Thanks so much Elaine! I was also thinking that the Summer Olympics might be affected if they don’t get the virus under control.
great week Kim and congrats on the 100th class! really odd about the muscle mass loss though??? But yay on the weight loss! you’re really killing the challenge!! I’d have probably played a similar joke on the opposing teams too by the way 🙂
Thanks so much Renee!
