Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a great week. I feel like a broken record, but it was another crazy week of weather. We had rain, like crazy downpours and thunderstorms, 3 days in a row. Tornado watch alarms were going off on phones left and right. I *think* this week looks better, but we’ll see, lol.
I didn’t do too much running this week, but I still got in a solid amount of workouts. Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, May 20
2 mile recovery walk
My quads felt pretty beat up after the race so I was all about recovery.
Tuesday, May 21
Tabata Spinning Class (45 minutes) + Strength Training (20 minutes)
This was my 100th Peloton spinning class! So happy to finally be a part of the Century Club π
Wednesday, May 22
Boot Camp (60 minutes)
Due to the crazy thunderstorms on Wednesday night, I opted to skip my boot camp class at the gym and took a boot camp class on the Peloton app instead. To say it kicked my butt would be an understatement, but I enjoyed it because it was a great mix of cardio and weights. I got in about 2.5 miles of running during the cardio section.
Thursday, May 23
Hip Hop Spinning Class (45 minutes) + 1 mile run
I can’t explain how much I enjoyed this class. The instructor, Denis, was rapping along and dancing (just a little) on the bike. It was such a feel good ride and the playlist was crazy good. I ran a mile after the class to stretch out my legs.
I also FINALLY booked my flights for the Chicago Marathon. I’ve been looking at flights for months and finally they came down to a somewhat reasonable price. Also I was able to book JetBlue which was great (my favorite airline)!
Friday, May 24
Rest Day! This was definitely needed. I grabbed lunch with a friend during my lunch break and attended my godbrother’s high school graduation. I remember holding him as a baby when he was just 2 days old. Where does the time go?!?
Saturday, May 25
Fairfield 5K 3 mile run
I was supposed to run the Fairfield 5K but decided to skip it. There was construction on the major highway here (1-95) all weekend and one exit is completely closed so people were advised to stay away from that area all weekend – they were calling it Carmaggedon, lol. So I couldn’t go that way to get to the race. I could have taken the Merritt Parkway but I thought that would be full from people avoiding I-95. Then I could have taken the train there but would have needed to call an Uber to go from the train station to the race start. To me, it just wasn’t worth all the added aggravation, especially for a race I’ve done twice before, so I just rain 3 miles with my Saturday crew.
Sunday, May 26
Hope in Motion 5K
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve done this race. It’s my favorite hometown race and I do it every year. This race raises money for the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital. Besides the 100% humidity this morning, it was a great race , well organized and full of happy volunteers.
Total Weekly Mileage: 9.6 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 2 spinning class, 2 strength training workouts and 1 walk
Grade This Week β B+
Not surprised to see that I didn’t even break 10 miles this week. Basically I’ve had some hip pain on my right leg since last weekend’s half marathon. It’s very odd – it doesn’t hurt when I run, more so when I sit for too long and get up, or when I’ve been walking for a long period of time. When I press down on the area it’s pretty sore. I’ve done a lot of stretching and foam rolling this week. While it certainly feels better, it’s not totally gone. I figured that I didn’t want to run too much just in case that aggravated it. I’ll see how my runs feel this week.
I added up all of my miles for May and I was happy to see 62 miles! I’ll keep building on that number as I start marathon training this summer. I still don’t know if I want to do a 12, 14 or 16 week plan – I know for sure I’ll never do a 20 week plan again. I’ll make a decision on that sometime this month. Most importantly, I just want to make sure that I have a good base going into training.
Let’s end with a laugh today. I saw this on the Instagram and had to share (it’s from the Weight Watchers (WW) account):
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Love the Instagram graphic! I feel exactly that way most of the time! Congrats on another successful race completed. It sounds like you made the right decision to not run Saturday. All that aggravation for a 5K just isn’t worth it! Congrats also to your godbrother!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Laurie! Yes I feel good about the decision not to run Saturday’s race – it would have been extra stress that I didn’t need!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Looks like a good recovery week! I hope your hip settles down.
Yay for buying your Chicago tickets – I’ve still gotta get that done!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle. I’m gonna keep my eye on my hip – I don’t want anything derailing Chicago training!
Deborah Brooks says
So glad that your tried Denisβ class! Love him. I will probably do that class tomorrow to shake out the legs. They are tired. Thanks for linking up!
kookyrunner says
Denis was a riot – absolutely loved him and will do more of his classes in the future!
Kimberly Hatting says
Are those orange striped legging from ON? If so, I have them, too π We had crazy weather here, Wednesday night…tornado warnings all around us. UGH!!!!! Thanks for linking with us, #KimTwin π
kookyrunner says
Yup, from Old Navy! I remember laughing when I saw that you had them on in an IG post a while back because I knew I had the same ones π
angela @ happy fit mama says
That graphic…ummmm, yes!! The playlist from your hip hop spin class looks amazing! I would be singing and dancing too. I went to a yoga class recently that had a very similar play list with a live DJ. It was so fun!
kookyrunner says
The music for that class was sooo good! I am looking forward to taking more of his classes.
That yoga class that you took sounds like something I would like!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Woo 100 classes, nice job! The playlist looks great – as I was reading it I was singing the songs so I can only imagine how energizing it was for class. Carmageddon – LOL – good call on skipping it.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Becca! LOL, I do the same thing when I see playlists too. All the singing takes me back to middle/high school.
Wendy says
Sorry to hear about your hip pain–hopefully you’ll get that sorted out. Can I comment that your godson is really tall? Congrats to him! What’s next for him?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy. I’m keeping my eye on it. I did a 4 mile run this morning and it felt fine after so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.
Yup, my godbrother is very tall (over 6 feet), but also my mom and i are super short as you know, LOL. He’s going to Bryant College in the Fall!
Jessie says
Congratulations to your godson!
Hope the hip isn’t a big deal…fingers crossed a little R&R helps π
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! The hip isn’t feeling any worse so I’m hopeful that it will continue to improve.
Coco says
LOL on that meme. That about covers it! Yay on hitting 100 Peleton rides – you’re a champ! Sounds like you made the right call on Saturday’s 5K, especially since you ran a more meaningful (to you) one today. One reason I don’t like 5Ks is that the hassle factor doesn’t seem to outweigh the running payoff.
kookyrunner says
That meme made me laugh so much – food is the fastest way to my heart, lol.
Agree with you about the 5K. Ultimately I was like do I want to go through all of this for a 5K? The answer was a quick No, lol
Liz Dexter says
A good strong week! Yes, a 20 week plan is too long! My last marathon plan was 18 but that was more to do with when I started it, so I did it all the wrong way round! Love your World’s OKest Runner tshirt!
kookyrunner says
Right?! I did a 20 week training for Chicago last time and that was not the best decision because I felt so burnt out and over marathon training by the time race week arrived.
Allie says
I’m definitely laughing…and relating to that last one – I love me some food!! What a great week you had despite the weather and skipping the Fairfield race but you made the right call there – the Merritt is not where you want to spend your time…I know this from horrible experiences on it myself – ugh. We try to take the train whenever possible into the city from our house in CT.
Hope your hip feels better for your workouts this week!
kookyrunner says
Food is amazing and the key to my heart, lol.
Where in CT are you located? Totally agree with you about the Merritt, especially because its only 2 lanes! When there is traffic its just a nightmare.
Marcia says
You’ve been a racing machine lately! I don’t blame you one bit for skipping that carmageddon one. Not worth the aggravation! Congrats to your godbrother! We’ve had a couple of really nice days but it still rains almost daily and the other day we had ridiculous hail. Ugh.
kookyrunner says
Hail?? Chicago weather has been insane this year! Hopefully you guys have a nice summer full of normal weather lol.
Darlene says
100 peleton classes!!! Wow!
It’s tough doing two races in one week. You were smart to choose just one and it looks like you made the right choice.
We have had crazy weather…hot…cold…cold! Hard to schedule runs.
kookyrunner says
Totally agree about the weather – it makes it hard to schedule run and know what to where!
Hannah says
I’ve had hip pain that sounds similar to yours before – I think I may have had an internal bruise somehow. Whatever it was cleared up in a week or so. Hope yours is feeling better soon!
kookyrunner says
The internal bruise makes a lot of sense – I was actually thinking if that was possible, lol
Dominique Cheylise says
Congrats on completing another race! Sounds like you made the right decision on not doing the 5K. I love the variety in your workouts. The hip hop spinning class sounds so fun! One of my goals for June is to get into indoor cycling. I went to one class maybe 5 years ago and didn’t come back because of the discomfort from the seat, but I want to push through that because I know it burns a ton of calories!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I love music so I always enjoy when I can incorporate hip hop or pop music with my workouts.
Chaitali says
Congrats on that 100th peleton class! Fingers crossed that the crazy weather will stop soon π We had hail the size of golf balls yesterday evening.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! When I first started with Peloton, 100 rides seemed so far away so it was a nice milestone to hit!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Last Monday I was at my aunt’s house and there was a tornado warning. The sirens went off and we had to go to the basement. Pretty scary and the last time I had to go to the basement was in August of 1990. Happy you bought your ticket for the marathon! I hope it wasn’t too expensive like mine. π Give me all of the food and you will be my BFF!!
kookyrunner says
That’s so scary! Doesn’t it seem like mother nature is totally angry at us this year? The weather has been so absolutely crazy.
I finally got a decent deal on my Chicago flights – I’ve been stalking the process forever!!
Jenn says
Yay food!
Ok, so first of all, how tall is your godbrother??? He towers over everyone in that photo! Congratulations to him!
You had a really incredible week! So glad things are going so well!
kookyrunner says
I’m all about the food, lol.
My godbrother is over 6 feet (don’t know his exact height), but also keep in mind that my mom and I are both short, lol
RenΓ©e says
good recovery week! I’d have probably skipped the 5K too, especially if something called “carmaggedon” was involved in the situation! I am still catching up on blog posts so I haven’t seen your Boston recap yet, but I take it you had a good run?? I’ll try to read it when I finish the WRD posts π
so when are your Chicago dates? I’m doing a 16 week plan, so I start on 24 June officially. I was hoping to build up by now but I still haven’t run more than 5 KM at a time, all in intervals (and the 5K was only once). It’s fine; I’m trying to also get my whole schedule going again and will be ready to start on the start date. Can you believe training is actually about to happen soon??? OMG!
kookyrunner says
The Boston race was good! I had some aches and pain during the race, and it got hot in the second half of the race, but the course and the logistics were great.
So I’ll be Chicago from Oct 11-14 (Fri-Mon). I think that I’m going to either do a 12 or 14 week training plan – it depends on how many longish runs I do this month. I really can’t believe training starts so soon though!
